According to the James Bond International Fan Club, Daniel Craig is now the most popular James Bond actor: www.pr-inside.com/the-world-has-a-new-favourite-r609412.htm Sean Connery no longer 'best Bond'
The world has a new favourite 007 - with Daniel Craig replacing Sean Connery's decades-long dominance.
Print article Refer to a friend 2008-05-27 12:36:19 - James Bond fans from around the globe have voted the newcomer as the best ever Bond.
David Black, who is chairman of the International James Bond Fan Club which conducted the poll, said: "This has come as a massive surprise.
"For most people, Connery is the ultimate Bond. He was the first and for many years considered to be the best.
"But for Bond fans, Daniel Craig exhibits all the traits that Bond creator Ian Fleming originally wrote about."
Craig is currently filming the 22nd James Bond movie - The Quantum of Solace - which is expected in cinemas later this year.
Mr Black added: "Excitement about the new film is already growing. Daniel Craig and the producers have managed to re-invigorate the franchise with something new and exciting.
"I think that too has appealed to our members which in turn has helped Daniel move quickly into the top spot."
The poll took place on the club's website at www.007.info and involved members in more than 40 countries.
Press release writing and distribution by Urban Media Publishing Ltd.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

This is ridiculously stupid. Sean is the best and the most popular Bond ever in the old days while Pierce is the best and the most popular Bond since Sean. Great or not, DC is and will never be a true modern day Bond like Pierce was. I'm BOYCOTTING QOS even if it is going to be great, and that movie doesn't deserve nominations from the Golden Globes or the Oscars. The Lake of Fire is where QOS belongs. And Harrison Ford can still kick DC's @$$.

I should'nt take too much notice of this. The fact that the poll was conducted by the 'International James Bond Fan Club' should tell you something. They will try to big up whoever is Bond. The next man to take over will get the same 'best Bond' ever hype. The Eon PR machine will latch onto this and milk it for it's worth. But any real Bond fan knows what's what. Connery had height, physical presence, charm, good looks, charisma, toughness, a strong voice and starred in seven films. How an earth can Craig replace him (& the other Bonds for that matter) after one charisma free performance ?

Now this is surprising. I didn't expect this type of nonsense to start appearing until we got much closer to QOS' release date. ;D

Daniel Craig does seem to be pretty popular. But Pierce Brosnan was a very popular Bond, and I always read comments saying he was a perfect blend of Connery and Moore.
Timothy Dalton got a good response for his first outing too.

Daniel Craig does seem to be pretty popular. I think that is the "official story" from Eon/Sony and Craig's own PR handlers--and they're doing a heck of a job shelling out the marketing cash for this nondescript actor. Yet here in the U.S. (the all important market, as Michael G. Wilson once said) Craig is not a household name. And the public at large seems to have forgotten him or are certainly not excited to see him in films as suggested by the downturn of his recent films. I believe his most recent film, Flashbacks of a Fool, was another box office disaster in his growing collection of disasters. I don't think this movie even made it to a single theater in the U.S. and it certainly wasn't popular in England because it flopped. Just my cynical view...I'm no business expert, but I have a feeling that Sony executives are assessing the state of the franchise in some hush-hush meeting, probably wondering if it's really worth shelling out this kind of intense marketing for an actor who's such a hard-sell. The previous Bond actors immediately looked like Bond to the eyes of the world. They never required the over-praised, over-hyped marketing used for Craig. But at the end of the day, a clinically sane business person will have to wonder about the Craig marketing and whether it's worth it after all especially when considering you can make life easier and cut costs dramatically by pursuing equally good actors who actually look the part and, consequently, without the baggage that Craig is hauling.

especially when considering you can make life easier and cut costs dramatically by pursuing equally good actors who actually look the part and, consequently, without the baggage that Craig is hauling. There's also the fact that the change in tone- and not the actor- was the single biggest factor in CR's reception. It's completely absurd to think that a more 'Bondish' actor like Brosnan or Owen in that film wouldn't have been accepted. Hell, the public thought Brosnan should return even after the over-the-top DAD!

You have to factor in the attraction of being the 'new' and 'latest'. We live in a world increasingly dominated by trends and fads and this carries over into something as trivial as an actor in a studio franchise. Once Craig became Bond everyone scrambled to jump onboard and diss Pierce Brosnan. Brosnan was suddenly the old model. He was the past. People have a tendancy to believe that the latest thing is the best. If they ever make a James Bond film with a new actor then he will be the newest and latest model. Craig will be the past and judged in a more realistic and detatched way. If I had a James Bond magazine to sell I'd be telling everyone that Daniel Craig was better than Sean Connery!
