I hope J.J. doesn't include Khan or anything we seen before in the previous Trek TV series and films in the sequel.

I hope J.J. doesn't include Khan or anything we seen before in the previous Trek TV series and films in the sequel. If he tries to include Khan- and I know it's something that has been hinted at quite a bit- then the whole reboot was kind've pointless. It would be the same mistake Bryan Singer made with Superman. We have these fantastic franchises- as well as the technology to truly open them up- and people just want to dick around in the past. I love the films of the 70s and 80s, but what made them great was the fact that they represented something new. If filmmakers can't get past this obsession with homaging the past, we're never going to have another decade that's as memorable or inventive.

Klingons are best suited to be villains for the sequel. They're what Joker is to Batman.

By WENN.COM

William Shatner won't be reprising his role of Captain James T. Kirk in the next Star Trek movie - because the actor has finally accepted he's too old to bring back his character.
The 79 year old was fuming when he was left out of last year's revamped movie, which starred Chris Pine as a younger version of the famed starship captain and included a cameo appearance from Shatner's former co-star Leonard Nimoy as an older Spock from the future.
Shatner has previously insisted he would convince his pal, Star Trek director J.J. Abrams, to feature him in the next installment, but the star has now accepted it would be too difficult to explain his appearance in the upcoming film.
He tells Collider.com, "I've become a buddy of JJ, but I don't know if they can solve the problem of how you put the body I'm in now with the Kirk that we remember from 40 years ago." Looks like The Shat won't be in the upcoming Trek films.

He's got a new sitcom out hasn't he? It would be nice to see him play Kirk more time but it might be difficult to write him in, even for a cameo.

If you want a villain in Trek 12, send in the Klingons.

www.latinoreview.com/news/-star-trek-2-date-may-be-pushed-back-13691‘Star Trek 2’ Date May Be Pushed Back? By Gig Patta on May 24, 201
The speculations and rumors never end for the “Star Trek 2” film.
After the Internet fans questioned the delays of “Star Trek 2,” producer and co-writer Robert Orci had to reject those rumors on TrekMovie.com yesterday. Click here to jump to that story.
Deadline is reporting there may be “good news and bad news” on the sequel front. The site expects the good news that director J.J. Abrams will helm the project after his completion of the upcoming science-fiction film “Super 8.” However, the bad news revolves rumblings within Paramount Studios to push the Star Trek sequel from its June 29, 2012 release date to the holidays later that year.
What’s the reason?
Besides Abrams’s busy schedule, the Star Trek sequel’s writers are busy on their own projects too. Orci has been busy with the upcoming science fiction “Cowboys & Aliens” and the Gavin Hood-directed science fiction film “Ender’s Game” adaptation. Damon Lindelof is currently working on the Ridley Scott-directed “Prometheus.” And Alan Kurtzman directed “Welcome to People.”
As for Captain Kirk himself, actor Chris Pine will also be playing Jack Ryan in the Tom Clancy series reboot. The Jack Ryan script is currently being written by David Koepp.
Unless the stars and planets align properly, it would be difficult for the writers and Abrams to complete the project in the next thirteen months.
“Don’t be surprised if Paramount and Abrams push back six months at least,” wrote Mike Fleming of Deadline.
If that happens, Paramount has an option to move up the “G.I. Joe” sequel to an earlier summer release date next year.Looks Trek 12 may be pushed back to holiday season of '12, giving DC's Bond 23 a disadvantage.

www.hollywood.com/news/Star_Trek_2_May_Take_Longer_Because_JJ_Abrams_Wants_It_Done_Right/7804940'Star Trek 2' May Take Longer Because J.J. Abrams Wants It Done Right By Kelsea Stahler , Hollywood.com Staff | Monday, June 06, 2011
With the release of Super 8 this Friday and the fact that I've been re-watching Lost all weekend, I hereby dub this week J.J. Abrams week. As such, it's only fitting that we take some time to discuss what's next for the new king of sci-fi. He dropped few little nuggets of information about the highly-anticipated Star Trek sequel that he doesn't have a contract to direct, but it's his baby, so he totally will eventually. Obviously, we need to talk about this.
After enduring the sad news that Star Trek 2 would be pushed back to summer 2012 and then again to Christmas 2012, we can at least take solace in the fact that J.J.'s got a plan and he's got our best interest in mind. Over the weekend, he attended a Super 8 press junket and sent out a few words to calm our fears about waiting any longer for a movie we've wanted to see since the credits rolled on the first Abrams Star Trek.
I care much more that it be good than it be ready. I'm, obviously doing everything I can to make sure that schedules don't get screwed up. But I don't think anyone wants a movie on time that's not worth your time...We want to make sure it's done right. The guys I've been working with are obviously brilliant so I'm really excited to get back into it. So this is something I've been working on pretty closely, so in part they're like, fine we'll meet you to discuss.
He may not hold a contract to direct yet, but this is Abrams' movie and from the looks of things he's ready to get cracking, but as usual, he wants it to be perfect. (Besides, Paramount would have to somehow lose its collective mind not to get that signature on paper for the Star Trek sequel.) It makes sense, and obviously, if J.J.'s not happy, we won't be happy, so we should just stop our whining and let the man work his magic even though it pains us to hear that we may have to a wait a millisecond longer that we were originally promised. According to Roberto Orci, one of the masterminds behind the Star Trek and Star Trek 2 stories, Abrams has been trying to give input on the sequel's script as he's been "up to his eyeballs in Super 8," so perhaps once the film finally hits theaters at the end of the week, J.J. can take that fierce perfectionism and put it to work on Star Trek 2. Pretty please with sugar on top? Seriously, this wait is just getting ridiculous at this point. If Trek 2 (not II as in TWOK) is pushed back for Christmas '12, what does that mean for Bond 23? Would it be delayed as well?

Hello, I believe J.J. Abrams, writers Bob Orci, Alex Kurtman, ect. really need to take their time with the next 'Star Trek'. Even if it means a 2013 release date. I'm with FormerBondFan in that the main villains should be the KLINGONS! Honestly, I think this is what die hard fans and casual moviegoers are dying to see. The Kingons are to Starfleet what S.P.E.C.T.R.E. were to James Bond and MI6. Also, J.J. Abrams knows how to do the Klingons properly - judging by that awesome deleted scene from the first film where Nero is being interrogated on the Klingon Prison Planet Rura Penthe. Other threats that we're familiar with could be there, too - but the main story arc definately should be some kind of Klingon galactic conflict. It's alot to ask, but I also would like to see the sequel develop all the characters further, (Especially the Kirk, Spock, McCoy dynamic) and give us something of a morality message that The Original Series did so well. I loved 'Star Trek' 2009 - but I'm hoping the sequel will be just slightly more cerebral. Personally, I can't wait! Take Care, Alec 006

Any stories we seen in the previous series and movies should be left alone. It would make any to jump around and do things like bringing back Khan or have the crew against the Borg. Klingons are more appropriate as the next bad guys. With Vulcan gone, Federation is a lot vulnerable.

Abrams' version of the Klingons are enough to keep me up at night!!! In this fantastic deleted scene from 'Star Trek' (2009) - Nero is interrogated by Star Trek's most famous villains: Yikes! I wonder how incredibly terrifying and sinister they look under their helmets!!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- James T. Kirk: "They're animals!"
Spock: "Jim....they are dying."
James T. Kirk: "Let them die!!!"

I want to see the Klingons becoming the smooth-head as seen in both TOS and TAS.
