commanderbond.net/article/2994Brosnan: All the movies made money. Creatively, maybe, they could have been stronger, but they were Bond movies, and they advanced a certain degree out of the dolddrums where they had been. They were tricky to do. I never really felt as as though I nailed it. As soon as they put me into a suit and tie and gave me those lines of dialogue, I felt restricted. It was like the same old same old. I was doing Roger Moore doing Sean Connery doing George Lazenby. I felt as if I were doing a period piece dusted off. They never really took the risks they should have. […] It would have been great to light up and smoke cigarettes, for instance. It would have been great to have the killing a little more real and not wussed down. My boys watch the movies on DVD, so I see them from time to time. I see myself with nowhere to go, and it’s all rather bland. thanx bro U admit it yourself

That's knocking on for four years ago. Agree that the Brosnan films could have been better but that's the producers fault rather than the actor. From what I've read Brosnan wanted to ask people like John McTiernan, Ang Lee and Brett Ratner to do a Bond but he ended up with inspired (cheap) Eon choices like Lee Tamahori ( ). I think the Brozza did a pretty good job with what he was given. Graham Rye once said Brosnan matched Connery at his best but was sometimes saddled with moments that could have been in Carry On films. I tend to agree. And as for Eon choosing Teri Hatcher over Monica Belluci - it just says it all. It's this kind of thinking that leads us to 'Another Way to Die' as a theme song and Bond turning into Jason Bourne...

I've never understood how Tamahori got the job. He's the one that urged the producers to include more cgi, and they agreed with him. Ironically, Tamahori's previous film, Along Came A Spider, featured extremely bad cgi during a car crash. But maybe I'm giving EON too much credit, and assuming they actually checked out his filmography beforehand. Babs probably saw him in a magazine and chose him that way. ;D

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

Chuck.....are considering Brosnan worse than Vin Diesel or Steven Seagal as an actor?

Sorry, bro, but the nickname "James Bland" has been taken for about 4 years now. ;D And it's not even something fans can take credit for- the media has been using it to label Craig since 2005. The title was pretty much cemented by that snoozefest known as Quantum of Solace. You'll just have to make do with "Razzie Bond".

They probably thought the same thing when they hired Marc Forster and look where that got them. ;D The problem with Eon is that they pick b-list directors who aren't too expensive and can remain under their thumb. Even Daniel Craig's wikipedia entry says Martin Campbell wanted to cast Henry Cavill as 007 instead of Craig in Casino Royale. Usuprisingly, he was put in his place by Barbara. Can you imagine James Cameron or Christopher Nolan making a film where their choice of leading man was vetoed by a producer?

That interview has taken on a comical sheen now with Campbell's firm assurance that Bond is not Bourne because he's much more attractive and has a better sense of humour! I thought Campbell looked incredibly pissed off about something at the press conference unveiling Craig.

I thought Campbell looked incredibly pissed off about something at the press conference unveiling Craig. Campbell (and Wilson) also spent a lot of time talking about how young the character would be in CR. Bond was always referred to as a twenty-something, which is how the script was written. Cavill was reportedly the favorite, with Worthington a close second.

Campbell himself told him too young, may be after 2 or 3 Craig movies we may see Cavill in Tux as the 7th of 007 ,he will be third person with surname beginning C (Connery,Craig,Cavill) in the mean time give a chance to Craig, his potrayal is excellent, be open mind guys

He's not really how I imagine James Bond to look and a trifle dour for me. I have no major problems with Cavill though so perhaps he'll unite Bond fans again in a few years.
