Daniel Craig to Play Bond Again in 2012; Who's the Worst James Bond of All?
William Browning – Wed Jan 19, 1:42 pm ET
COMMENTARY | The Washington Post reports Daniel Craig is up for his third stint as James Bond. There is no set actress to play his Bond girl just yet. Brit Sam Mendes is still going to direct. The 23rd "James Bond" movie will hit theaters in November 2012.
Craig plays a tough and gritty James Bond. Many of the actors who played the British secret agent in the past have given their approval to the 42 year-old from Chester, England.
Although only seven men have played James Bond, one stands out in my mind as the worst.
Pierce Brosnan
Somehow, Pierce Brosnan survived making five Bond flicks. Although "Goldeneye" was the best James Bond movie he made, his take on the super spy just didn't fit with any others. Perhaps it was the bad writing or horrible plots from his series of movies. It's almost as if EON Productions was simply going through the motions of making the films just to have the name James Bond plastered on a piece of celluloid.
Brosnan's not a bad actor -- I'm sure some women consider him to be suave and macho with his accent. But he's not James Bond. Brosnan would make a great secret agent if he were to be a ballerina or librarian. Brosnan just didn't have the presence to kick butt or be strong.
Craig remedies what Brosnan lacked. Sean Connery will always be the prototypical James Bond since he was a former bodybuilder, had the accent and was dashing. When they got Craig to sign on for five "007" movies, the producers were trying to bring back the mystique of Connery and forget about Brosnan.
Now many James Bond fans are saying "Pierce who?" Tracking down a media magnate in "Tomorrow Never Dies" is the lamest villain ever. Putting up with an over-the-top "laser beam" from space has been done before. In "The World Is Not Enough," one villain is unable to feel pain much like the uber-tough "Jaws" character from the Roger Moore days.
It's almost as if the Bond series was old, much like Brosnan, when they made the films in the 1990s. In the 1960s, it was the Soviets. The 1970s saw drugged-out funky themes. The 1980s saw the drug trade. What did the 1990s have for a James Bond theme? Just about any esoteric theme you can imagine whether it's been done before or not had Brosnan playing the iconic British agent.
I'm sure Brosnan had much better roles. Unfortunately, he tried to make the jump from "Remington Steele" to "James Bond" and it just didn't work very well.
I am SO sick of an article like this. How could you blame someone who has no control over things? What they said about Brosnan is just WRONG, and he does have a presence to kick butt or be strong. His non-Bond films like The Tailor of Panama and especially The Fourth Protocol prove it.
BOND 23 MUST CRASH AND BURN, ESPECIALLY HERE IN THE US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
