I have heard many people suggest that Pierce Brosnan would have been good for Casino Royale. The Bond Begins/rookie agent aspect would have to be jettisoned (although I gather that was invented for Daniel Craig and not in the novel), but the story would have been a great darker Bond for Pierce. It could have been a good first Bond outing for Pierce.

He could have done it as his last film if they'd tweaked the story.

I think Brosnan wanted to a slightly darker one and a version of CR would have been perfect.

It would have been Bond at the end of his career rather than the start. Might have worked.

How about a role reversal with Daniel Craig in Die Another Day? Is anyone interested in watching that?

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

I can't imagine Daniel Craig in DAD.

Why not make a lighter movie with D. Craig? Connery Moore and Brosnan had lighter Bond movies and some darker ones too. If Craig is going to make lots of Bond movies then there has to be some variety instead of endless serious thrillers with a troubled Bond.

Brosnan's films are a sort of mixture of what has gone before.

If anything, Pierce's Bond is lighter in the outside but darker in the inside.

The main problem Brosnan had was the scripts. They could never decide if they wanted him to be Timothy Dalton or Roger Moore.

It was Pierce who wanted a gritty Bond himself.
