I've watched it one and a half times, firstly in the cinema and then on DVD. This second, uncompleted (guess why) viewing was far worse. For me it was the atmosphere of the cienama that covered many weaknesses of the film. Apart from many well known and broadly discussed reasnons I don't like CR also due to its production values. The money (conisdering CR budget) is just not visible on screen, the film don't have an air of spectacularity to it. The casino interrior can be fine example - compare that from CR with, let's say, TB. The diference is very vivid.

I think this happened with Die Another Day where everyone seemed to love it when it came out but now they are always going on about its flaws. Casino Royale did look a bit flat. It had some nice scenary but the casino scene looked quite flat. Welcome to the forum, by the way ;D

Thank you for welcome. I must agree as for the landscapes in CR, some of them were picturesque and I actually enjoyed that. Still, it's nothing extraordinary. The same can be said about the majority of Bond films. As opposite to CR however, many of them can also be described as spectacular and simply "big". And I'm not only refering to the epic entries like GF, TSWLM or MR. For me every single Brosnan film at least felt bigger than CR. This contrast is even more prominent if we only take DAD into account. The film, so eagerly criticised for various reasons and presented as a disaster in comparison to CR, in the field of scale undeniably and completely outdo the latter, making it look so cheap that it's hard to believe the two belong to the same franchise.

I did try to watch it again recently. I found it rather flat and Daniel Craig sucks the fun out of it. His presence is annoying and I find the whole affair an insult to the memory of Cubby Broccoli and Ian Fleming.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

Casino Royale is starting to look really dated which always happens when you put Bond in casual clothes. It's from a specific Bourne/24 era too which won't help. QoS is even worse with DC's cardigans and white trousers. The only hope for that film is that it becomes a comedy classic for future generations.

QOS might well be regarded as a cult, cheesy classic in future years, the sort of film that is entertaining because it is so bad. That would be ironic.

The funny thing about this discussion is that the people who made Quantum of Solace were actually taking it all seriously.

No wonder they didn't get any BAFTAS.
