I'm not sure about the fella playing Pavel Chekov. I'll have to find some more pics. It was fortunate that "Sylar" was around when a young Spock was needed.

I got a bit bored with the Star Trek tv shows in the end but I'm looking forward to the new film.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

Hopefully, it will be as good as TDK, but I could be wrong.

What do you guys think of The Final Frontier?

Star Trek V? It wasn't as bad as they said but it wasn't one of the best ones. I think people went after it because Shatner directed it.

Star Trek 5 was a pretty big disappointment after the success of part 4. It's not very good, but it does at least have the familiar chemistry between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. This is something that was sorely lacking in the first Star Trek film, which wasn't much fun at all.
It would've been better if Leonard Nimoy and Nicholas Meyer had worked on the script for Final Frontier. They left Saavik on Vulcan in part 4, just in case they wanted to pick up her story thread in part 5. (After all, she and Spock had had sex in part 3, so...) I think the Romulans should've been the villains in part 5, since they were never really explored in the original crew's films.

The sixth film was very good. I think that was the one where the collapse of the Soviet Union inspired the story with the Klingon Empire in trouble. At the start of the film Sulu is a Captain.

I think that photo perfectly sums up Star Trek V. Nice find. ;D
The sixth was great, and Saavik was originally supposed to be the one Spock chose as his successor. I think the original crew were still good for at least one more film, but they got a perfect swansong. So I can't complain.

I think the original crew were still good for at least one more film, but they got a perfect swansong. So I can't complain. But the TNG crew didn't. They deserve a better movie to end their tenure as much as Pierce deserves a better Bond to end his.

Paramount didn't treat either crew very well near the end. They slashed the budget on Star Trek 5, assuming that the goodwill from Star Trek 4 would be enough for a hit. Then they didn't market Star Trek 6 very well and rushed TNG into films by cancelling their show.
Flash forward to 2002, and they dumped Nemesis into theaters less than a week before the Lord of the Rings sequel dominated screens.
