The Living Daylights is the fifteenth spy film in the James Bond series, and the first to star Timothy Dalton as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. The film's title is taken from Ian Fleming's short story "The Living Daylights."

What a marvellous adventure this film is. Tim Dalton has the Bond look; it's a shame Barbara did not take any notice of looks of the Bond actors her father hired. Tim is serious, but has some charm too. Kara is great too. 9/10

I remember watching this movie and thinking that it would have killed Roger Moore with its energy. Dalton brought both a serious, theatrical demeaner and a lean fitness to the role that reinvigorated the series. It was unfortunate that that was lost somewhat in his next outing.

8/10 Awesome first outing for Dalton. It has all the Bond elements and Dalton and Cubby don't pull any punches.

A big solid 9 out of 10 for one of my favourite James Bond films. Excellent debut by Timothy, great John Barry score, Gibraltar PTS, Necros fight dressed as a milkman ( ;D), Robert Brown as M, Q, Moneypenny etc. Those were the days...

Dalton was eventually and surprisingly annonced as Bond in 1986. He was dark, tall and handsome. He was the right age and a good actor. Everyone hoped he would take Bond into the 90's.
Anyone expecting a FRWL type back to basics Connery type Bond were in for a shock. Brocoli did'nt want to scrap the one liners, gadgets and big action that had served him well in the 70's and 80's. So there were cars with lasers and bombs. One liners 'he got the boot', 'salt corusion' and silly action such as evading guns and bombs sitting on a cello case.
The plot was a bit convulted and the film does drag in places. However there is an impressive climax at an airport and on a plane. The PTS is good and everything is done with an energy and enthusiasm that was lacking in AVTAK.
Dalton looks the part and does nothing wrong. It's the first time since the 60's where a Bond actually looks close to the 37 years Flemings Bond wrote about. However the script was written before Dalton was cast and he was'nt able to stamp his own authority on the character. It was also decided to make Bond more sensitive and sexually responsible. So Dalton takes his leading lady to the fair etc. The rest of the case are pretty forgettable. No memorable supervillian or henchman.
Overall, TLD is a pale shadow of the best of the Connery & Moore era. However it was a fresh approach to Bond which was what was needed in the late 80's.
8/10

Eight. One of the better Bonds but it does lack a memorable villain.

Nine. A great reboot after Rog without throwing the Bond out with the bathwater...as those muppets at Eon subsequently did once they got their grubby mitts on Cubby's franchise.

A great Bond debut that has been largely forgotten over the years. But the film was very well-received at the time and remains a strong entry in the canon.

Love this picture and it shows what a great piece of casting Dalton was for Bond.
