The darker Quantum of Solace was criticized and it looks as if Bond 23 will see Daniel Craig play a more humourous Bond. I'm not sure if he can handle a charming, humourous James Bond. I have not watched Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace more than once so it is difficult for me to comment on Craig's handling of the gags in any detail. But from what I can remember, his delivery was rather wooden (to put it mildly). In Casino Royale we had the swiss chocolate gag. I also remember a scene where Bond had to talk to a female receptionist in the country club near the start. Brosnan or Connery would have made you laugh with their facial expressions, but Craig's Bond stood there looking like a serial killer! In Quantum of Solace I remember a scene with another receptionist where Craig adopted a cockney accent. He adopted this cockney accent a few times - he did it in the opera scene too. Maybe this adoption of a cockney accent was a way to make humourous lines less wooden. I have read some posts on other forums extolling Craig's comedy skills in his Bond films. They say things like "Did you see that bit in QOS where Bond said :"Two coffees hold the sugar"? What subtle wit". So perhaps I am not sophisticated enough to appreciate the humour in these new Craig Bond films.

No I don't believe he can. I'm with you in that I have only watched Craig's Bond movies once. I should watch them several times - but that would be torture.

Craig was in a light comedic film in a movie called (ironically) Hotel Splendide. Saw it a few years ago but I don't remember him standing out and showcasing any kind of comedic talent. Naw, I don't believe he can handle the humor that one identifies with Bond. If he could, Eon would've used it to the fullest. Instead, you can see what they did with the last two movies. They geared the script for him, which is typically what they do for each of the actors. But in his case, they downplayed the humor because they knew it just wouldn't work. They did attempt at being witty, like that scene where he has the stupid seduction line about getting the girl to help him look for stationary. That was the worst in the series. No one in the theater laughed, and you could sense that Eon and Forster didn't know how to handle Craig in those types of situations. The only way I could see humor coming into play is if they shift the humor to other characters, like what they did in the Dalton films. For example, Q getting a bigger role (if he's brought back), or the villains getting more one-liners.

I don't see how any actor can have a problem doing a bit of humour in a Bond movie. I mean it's just saying a line ('he saw the point) or even a word ('Butterhook'). We are not asking them to smile, wink at the camera and go all Mr Bean on us. If you say the line at the right time and with enough conviction, it should bring a laugh. It's basically up to the writers to put some good one liners in a film, that suits the situation Bond is in.

Craig couldn't make a lighter film even if Sir Rog was there to coach him

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

Daniel Craig does ruin some of his funny lines. Perhaps it is because he is trying to play an intense Bond and then suddenly has to recite a Purvis and Wade line.

Yes, Quantum of Solace, a hilarious 2008 spoof of the Jason Bourne films. To be honest I don't think he has. If you were making a comedy or a romantic comedy, Daniel Craig would hardly be high up on the shortlist of actors.

i'm sure we all heard this saying but... "drama is easy - comedy is hard" True. But, Craig playing a Sir Roger style Bond would be like Steven Seagal appearing in a Harold Pinter play.
