Sebastian Faulks is to be the Author of the new James Bond book - Devil May Care. Will Babs get to use this material and if so could DC be Bond?

I think the book is set in the cold war. Eon tend to shun the ongoing novels but steal odd bits here and there. Good choice of author though.

This is from the Ian Fleming Centre (http://www.ianflemingcentre.com/index.cfm?nid=news): "Forty two years later and in keeping with tradition, Devil May Care is set in the Cold War and the action is played out across two continents, exotic locations and several of the world's most thrilling cities." I'm looking forward to this new novel. I've basically given up on the films. Just not crazy about the last film and D. Craig. Oh, glad to join this forum. I think it's great.

I'm rather looking forward to this one. Should be a bit more special than the Gardeners etc.

Is Faulks planning to write any more? Or is this a one-off?

Is Faulks planning to write any more? Or is this a one-off? I believe it's intended to be a one-off. I found an article from 2005 that announces the notion of a centenary novel, and near the beginning of the article, there's reference to a one-off publication: ---------------------------------- Fifty-five years since Ian Fleming's best-known creation put on evening dress and strode into the casino at Royale-les-Eaux, the Secret Agent is to be reborn. Plans for a one-off, new James Bond novel, to celebrate the centenary of its creator, are being finalised by the estate of Ian Fleming. source: scotlandonsunday.scotsman.com/world/New-lease-of-life-for.2656365.jp--------------------------------- It wouldn't surprise me, though, if the Fleming estate approaches Faulks for more novels if Devil May Care is a best-seller. But would a distinguished author like Faulks be interested in carrying on with a series? When I read Colonel Sun, I was saddened that Kingsley Amis didn't go on with his own series of Bond novels. I'll probably feel the same way with Faulks after I read Devil May Care. (I just finished his novel, Birdsong, and it's great. So I'm really looking forward to the centenary novel.)

I feel that Faulks would see this as a one-off. The higher the calibre of author, the less willing he would be to commit himself to a series of official Bond novels.
This is not meant as a slight on John Gardener who, as a respected author in the spy thriller genre - wrote an interesting series of books.
I think it would be fun if every few years they invited a different famous author to give his/her (would Fleming approve of a her!) spin on Bond.

There is an interesting snippet on CommanderBond.net from Faulks about the book: "Ian Fleming loved trains; it has trains. He loved cars; there are cars. There’s also something I’ve discovered; a very, very exotic Cold War vehicle. I can’t really think how better to describe it. And, of course, it has high life. Adventure.” commanderbond.net/article/4893

It was a big day for the literary Bond in London today (May 27). Devil May Care had quite a kick-off, very dramatic and Bondian. According to this Reuters report, the event was held on the HMS Exeter. www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSL2765312420080527?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0Unless I missed something, the event didn't seem to have the same buzz here in the U.S. Anyway, I'm buying the novel tomorrow and will delve into it right away. I've read almost all of Faulks' novels, so I'm eager to read what he did with our hero. :-)

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

The less said about DC's Bond, the better.

Hello, I am waiting for my next big paycheck and will gladly put down my Canadian loonies for Sebastian Faulk's new Bond novel. I am excited that Faulk has written "Devil May Care" in the style of Ian Fleming...and even followed Fleming's schedule and parts of his lifestyle as he was writing it. The release of the book in London looked to be amazing!!! It was done in very much the same style as the introduction of Daniel Craig to the press. I am frustrated that Fleming's Bond books are out of print in Canada...that is supposed to quickly change, thankfully! Luckily...I have my copies of "Casino Royale", "Dr. No", and "The Man With the Golden Gun" to keep me company whilst I wait! Take Care!
