Benson was more of a fan than an author. He always gave the impression of being out of his depth. Kind of like how people say the Sebastian Falks novel gives the impression that he was more familiar with the films than the novels. It seems to be this case for most authors post-Fleming. If I were to write a Bond novel it would be straight Fleming, with no ties to the films in anyway whatsoever. |
