'M' Judi Dench wants to quit Bond movies www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?newsid=1206668LONDON: Veteran British actress Dame Judi Dench, who plays M in the James Bond movies, wants to leave the 007 franchise, reveals producer Barbara Broccolli, who is against her exit. “She is the anchor of the film in terms of the character. She is the only authoritative figure in Bond's life. She had such a great relationship with Pierce (Brosnan) on the screen and she has such a great relationship with Daniel (Craig). She is the real Bond girl! The one that keeps it all going, and I don't want her to leave. She keeps threatening to leave but I will not let her,” Broccoli was quoted as saying by thesun.co.uk. Dench first appeared as M in 1995 when Pierce Brosnan played Bond in "Golden Eye". After that, she starred in seven more Bond movies.

If she really does want to leave, I think she should make her final appearance in Bond 23 and have her character given a closure while reintroducing the original male M.

She can't leave now. Bourne just got around to confronting his past in Russia. The next film will pick up from there, and find him going after the shadowy organization itself. Dench's character will obviously be the only one he can trust.

Is she contracted to make more Bond movies ? If not it's a bit arrogant BB saying 'I will not let her' go. There was surprise that she survived the reboot in 2006. The days of having a 'Q', 'Moneypenny' or 'M' lasting in Bond movies for 20 years are gone. Maybe the next one should be her last. She could go out in dramatic fashion.

She's in her seventies now so it's starting to get a bit unrealistic having such a mature head of MI6. In real life she would have been retired years ago. I think her and Craig should do the next one then both bugger off and clear the decks for a new Bond and M in Bond 24.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

Leave her there and kick her out when Craig goes. Which hopefully won't be long.

The male M shall return when the traditional James Bond returns.

I see Judi Dench vital to the series. She is like the voice of reason that brings order to the chaos that Daniel's Bond creates. Notice how she keeps appearing wherever Daniel is in the film? She basically explains or gives the audience an update on the status of the events in the story. Man, as I think of this, I realize that QOS is all about the dynamics of the two characters, one is chaos and other is order. I've never seen this kind of intricate theme worked into a Bond film before. The producers really lucked out in getting Marc Forster. He's given us a Thinking Man's action film. This takes the series in a whole different direction. Michael G. Wilson said they're taking a year off. That's probably because they're gonna make the next one even bigger and more amibitious in terms of its artiness. I have a feeling they'll continue with this theme of the clash of order and chaos. You know this idea goes back to the thoughts of great philosophers? In my intro philosophy class, we recently covered the basics of Nietzsche's Birth Of Tragedy, and it's all about Apollonian and Dionysian clash--one order, the other chaos. Forster is like a philosopher of movie directors, and what he's done to QOS is unbelievable. You know I get these sudden realizations about QOS, and my heart is racing right now! I really can't believe the deep art in this movie and Marc Forster weaves it beautifully into the action. But at heart it's a movie of ideas. No wonder QOS is confusing people! This movie is too highbrow for the common man.

QOS too sophisticated Alvin? Hmm, I'd say it's too subtle. There's plenty of humor it for example, the difference is that it's no longer loud dick/sex jokes like in the Moore and Brosnan films, which spanned over 30 years compared to Connery's 9. "She's just COMING sir", 'I've been known to keep my TIP UP", "tell him to PULL OUT", "she always did enjoy A GOOD SQUEEZE", "I think he's attemping REENTRY sir!", "I am happiest... IN DA SADDLE!", "I though Christmas only COMES once a year!", "No I'm not finished, LEAVE IT IN!/It's gotta COME OUT sooner or later!"
Okay fine, there's the little finger bit, hopefully that's the end of that junk!

Okay fine, there's the little finger bit, hopefully that's the end of that junk! Hi, my comment was more in terms of the deep thematic ideas in QOS. I wasn't making a statement about the film's sophistication by avoiding sexual innuendos. Apparently, that type of humor was popular because people are now saying the fun and cheesy humor are gone from QOS. But my point was all about QOS being such an arty film. I'm just deeply moved by its sophistication, and I pointed out the theme of order and chaos in Judi Dench and Daniel's roles. Marc Forster is an unbelievable director. You know, it won't surprise me that he gets nominated for best director. And Craig...my god, the way he was in that opera scene is just pure art. No other actor has taken Bond in the world of opera, and I'll admit it that tears welled in my eyes when I saw that opera scene. People have said that it was a hokey imitiation of the climax in Godfather Part III. I thought it was better, frankly. Marc Forster challenged audiences by having confusing camerawork that moved a lot. And you know, I now plan to get into opera music. There's a member of my chess club who's into opera and he's promised to lend me some CDs.

I see. Well it's just a movie to me, I think the only real thing highbrow about this flick is its title.

I expect Dench to depart with Daniel Craig. They can't have an 80 year-old M for Henry Cavill's first film.
