www.thebookseller.com/news/89070-page.htmlFaulks passes on new Bond 21.06.09 Benedicte Page The "options are open" on a follow-up to the James Bond hit Devil May Care, agent Simon Trewin has said, though Sebastian Faulks has confirmed that he will not author a second Bond title. "My contract did offer me a second go, but definitely not," he told The Bookseller. "'Once funny, twice silly, three times a slap', as the nanny saying goes. But I think it would be a good gig for someone to do." Trewin, of United Agents, manages the literary rights to Bond on behalf of the Fleming estate. He said that no new author had been signed up to write and there were "no firm plans at the moment". But he added: "All options are open."

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)

If there's another author doing Bond, would the story takes places in the '60s?

Hello,
I'm having a bit of an Ian Fleming James Bond novel festival this summer....enjoying reading all those classics again.
Has anybody read Sebastian Faulks' 'Devil May Care'? I heard it got some great reviews, and not so great reviews.
What intrigues me is Faulks wrote the book as Ian Fleming would have.
If you know of anyone who's read it, or you've read it yourself, I'd love to know your thoughts!
Take Care!

But, the reviews I read - even the positive fan reviews - did not inspire me to rush out and buy it.

I was put off too by the lukewarm review and have forgotten about it; I'll have to track it down.
It will be interesting to see if another is written. It looks like the publishers are moving away from the Gardner/Benson model to a series of one-offs.

I'm not a literary Bond expert (ask kadov or Alec) but I'd imagine they will want another 1960's set one off by a famous author after the modern setting of the Gardner/Benson continuation novels.

John Gardener made a did a difficult job well, and his modern setting for Bond made the novels different. Any 50's/60s set Bond will always draw unfavourable comparisons with Ian Fleming.

Hello, I've enjoyed many of the Bond books, both modern and retro. I must agree with 009 that I do prefer the books set in the '60's...that era just seems to have a certain element of excitement and charm, but all of that I think is due to Ian Fleming's imagination and brilliant writing.
