I think Brosnan would have been great in The Living Daylights. The film was suited for him and it would have been a great time for him to take over. Perhaps he would have been a bigger hit than Dalton in the 80's because of his fame in the US.
On balance, I'm glad that Tim Dalton did The Living Daylights. Would other members have preferred Brosnan in The Living Daylights?

If Pierce did TLD, would LTK had existed and would there still be a 6 year gap after LTK? And did Pierce desire to do a gritty Bond himself ever since before Moore retired?
Though Pierce's intro is best suited in GE, it would have been great if Pierce did TLD. That way he would done 6 Bonds. And speaking of Pierce's debut in GE, his first uttered of the legendary "Bond....James Bond" mirrors Sean's in Dr. No as both first uttered the famous line to a Bond girl at the casino.

Brosnan would still have been a victim of the legal hiatus after Licence To Kill. Starring in Bond in 1987 may have given his career a big boost meaning that he would not have returned in 1995.

As we all know Brosnan was the red hot favourite to take over from Moore. He was most famous for his lightweight role in 'Remington Steel' but his 1986 starring role in 'The Forth Protocol', playing a ruthless spy underlined that he would have made a great 80's Bond.
There are many rumours and counter rumours about why he did'nt get to star in TLD. He would have done a good job but did look very young. Brosnan himself admitted he did have a lot more screen presence eight years later in 1995. The script for TLD was already written before a new Bond was chosen so Brosnan's perfromance would'nt have been much different to Dalton's. Whether Brosnan would have starred in a LTK type grittier follow up would have been up to Cubby Brocoli & John Glen. I see no reason why not.
I predict that Brosnan would have continued as Bond after 1989. Dispite the six year gap. he would have starred as Bond in another 3/4/ films. He loved playing Bond and was young enough to continue. He would'nt have quit, like Dalton did. In fact the six year gap would have made him even hungier to play Bond and stamp his own personality on the character. The six year gap would have given him a chance to play other parts but he would'nt have been able to resist a phone call from Cubby (or the money !).

Again, did Pierce desired to play a darker and grittier Bond ever since before Moore retired?

I think Brosnan was a little more versatile than Roger, who adapted Bond to fit his own personality. Brosnan could do a fantastical Bond and have a good go at a more restrained one like TWINE. Ultimately, Eon never really found good enough scripts for him though.

Pierce looked like a teenager in the 80s. His Bond back then would be classified as a rookie coming from the Navy.

The Brozza would have looked something like this in 1986 or 87.

Pierce made Taffin and The Fourth Protocol around '86/'87.

He played a Soviet Agent in The Fourth Protocol quite well. It was a darker character and he didn't look too young to be James Bond. The film came out the same year as The Living Daylights.

I never had thought Pierce would look so young in the '80s. He doesn't even look like he's in his 30s.
What do you think of Taffin, harry?

He made Nomads with John McTiernan around this period. He doesn't look too young for Bond in that one although he does have a rather large beard.

Brosnan had his 80's look in GoldenEye with the longer hair. I thought he looked great in The World Is Not Enough when he was slightly older.
