She still looks great. The last thing I remember her being in was Smallville. I think she played Superman's real mom, Lara.

"I am Kara of Argo City, daughter of Alura and Zor-El, and I don't scare easily!" I read that the studio knew Supergirl wasn't going to be a success when Christopher Reeve backed out of the plan to have Superman appear in the film.

I read that the studio knew Supergirl wasn't going to be a success when Christopher Reeve backed out of the plan to have Superman appear in the film. His departure also left them scrambling to rework the script. Superman wasn't going to be a major part of the film, but I believe he did factor into several story points. If you read any of the film's backstory, it's almost like everyone went out of their way to handicap the production. It's a shame that Helen Slater didn't enjoy the same level of quality that Reeve did with his first two films. She was really quite perfect for the role.

You wonder if Reeve saw the script and thought better of it. It's a strange film. Quite dark in places but with a little too much comic banter involving Peter Cook, Faye Dunaway and Brenda (forgotten her second name) in the witch coven lair or whatever it was called.

Superman IV was the worst one.

Superman IV was the worst one. The Salkinds were apparently going to have Brainiac as the villain, Lewis Gilbert possibly as the director and Dynasty star John James replacing Christopher Reeve. All for a 1986 release. When Supergirl bombed they decided to sell. Cannon Films tried to make Superman IV on the cheap.

Cannon Films tried to make Superman IV on the cheap. What's worse is that Cannon actually had a decent budget for the film- they just decided to use half of it to finance other productions. (I believe some of the money was used for Masters of the Universe.) Jon Cryer has said Reeve knew the film was going to be a disaster, and would often just shake his head at how many corners the producers were trying to cut on the set. Ilya Salkind originally wanted to use Supergirl, Brainiac, and Mr. Mxyzptlk for Superman III. The storyline had Superman and Supergirl falling in love, Brainiac using a machine to control Superman, and Mxyzptlk taking them all to another dimension to fight as knights on horseback! Salkind later wanted to use Brainiac for a fifth movie called, Superman Reborn. The plot had Brainiac shrinking the city of Metropolis, with Superman finding himself powerless in the bottled city of Kandor.

During the Metropolis subway sequence you can see a London Underground station sign in Superman IV! I'd like to see Doomsday in a Superman film in the future. Anyone remember the Death of Superman arc in the comics?

Anyone remember the Death of Superman arc in the comics? Hello, Hmmmm....'The Death Of Superman' arc. Who could forget? I can still feel a chill up my spine and a lump in my throat when I visualize that beautifully drawn picture of Lois crying...cradling Superman's bloody, beaten, and brused dead body and his torn cape nearby being used as a flag. Sales of Superman comics up until that story arc were so low at the time....I really felt as if someone I loved had died. Take Care!

Yes, I remember that one. I have the collected edition. The Return of Superman wasn't bad either. It had Green Lantern in it if I remember correctly.
