Unlike many of the Bond film fans of today who seem to think that the Bond series is a realistic depiction of international espionage, I think the Bond films are silly - which is why I like them.
What's the silliest Bond film? For me it's the camp classic Moonraker.

I also enjoy the lightheartedness of Moore's Bond and although Moonraker has several tongue in cheek moments, it also boasts some classic scenes too.

I have really thought about the silliest and i honestly think that Diamond are Forever is worser that Moonraker which is a entertaining and spectacular film. Diamonds has a fine Connery performance and two amusing henchman Mr Wint and Mr Kidd. But it far too camp and the least threatening villian ever

Moonraker is the silliest. Even today we do not have space shuttles armed with laser cannons.

What's the silliest Bond film? For me it's the camp classic Moonraker. Moonraker was a continuation of TSWLM. Big sets and spectacular action. The success of TSWLM gave Cubby a bigger budget so sending Bond to outer space was sort of inevitable. Yes M is the silliest Bond movie. Giant Pythons, space ships and Bond literally flying through the air in the PTS. In fact this is the high point of super human Bond, casual, smiling, posseser of great powers and rarely wounded. But it's great fun and it was the biggest grossing Bond film ever until Goldeneye. The late 70's had lots of big budget space movies, M was simply another one.

It's a shame Cubby did not go for the hat trick and make the Bond after Moonraker even sillier.

AVTAK - now that was silly! I actually enjoyed AVTAK and think John Glen got a nice balanced performance from Sir Rog's Bond. Only his age was a concern for me.

I actually enjoyed AVTAK and think John Glen got a nice balanced performance from Sir Rog's Bond. Only his age was a concern for me. AVTAK was considered bottom-of-the-barrel for a very long time, but I do think the film (and its reputation) has improved with age. Part of that may be because it feels, in a way, like the true end of the "Cubby" era. Soon afterwards, Bond had to yield to the times and begin acknowledging things such as political correctness. I personally think the first hour of AVTAK works very well. If they had allowed Moore to simply portray Bond as an older 007, it could've provided a very classy swansong for his era. Unfortunately, they forced Moore (and his numerous stuntmen) to pretend it was still his 1970's heyday.

I must say my memory of 1985 after seeing that film was not good, as i left the cinema i overheard some guy saying to himself "what a load of old rubbish" , not that i agreed with him but it was a bit daft in places - very 1980s when you watch it now, it has very much dated. I thought at the time they had finally run out of ideas and the series were coming to an end. Until my mate dragged me to see TLD 1987 and that film just blew me away, i cant explain it, i came out with a warm feeling after that film, it turned out to be my all time fav film for years after that!

Rog was knocking on a bit but the film is very stylish and has a great score by John Barry. I always find the film reasonably entertaining. I quite like the climax on the bridge and christopher Walken is a great villain.

Moore was older than the other Bonds when he got the part. However the 70's had older action hero's - Eastwood, Newman, Heston, Mcqueen etc. Besides Moore actually looked youthful during his first three films. People also were'nt so health and age consious in the 70's & early 80's so there was'nt a problem having someone in their 50's playing Bond. I had no problem with Moore in M, FYEO & O. However by the mid 80's younger action hero's such as Wilis and Stallone had taken over. Moore unfortunatly looked too old to star in an action film & AVTAK looked silly. He seemed to have lost weight after O but that simply made him look haggard. Seeing him snogging Tanya Roberts & Fiona Fullerton was too much. He has also lost the twinkle in his eye and delivers his lines as if he is embarassed to say them. Maybe he knew the film was'nt up to the usual high standards. The good points were 'Walken' delightfully hamming it up as the villian, the not bad PTS and the mine shaft set pieces.
