GE is seriously overrated not only as a Pierce action/spy movie but also in his entire career as a whole. The problem is not the movie itself. I love and treasure it as much as every Pierce and classic Bond fans. Rather it all has to do with either the way Pierce's talents was misused after GE or his post-GE works went under radar.

Pierce's Bonds had a lot potential to prosper after GE, and they did in financial terms except that TND was a step backwards in worldwide numbers. In critical terms, it's a different story. He may not be able to get his 5th Bond which would have ended as his best of his Bond career. Since his Bond didn't end in a high note like he wanted, he still has his career outside of Bond to expand upon, and there's so much to what he can do with the action realm (which he had done just recently with NM, The Coup, Survivor, The Moon and the Sun, etc.).
The thing is that Pierce hasn't had a really great movie (especially in the action realm) that appealed beyond the fan-base since GE. To be honest and as much as I love GE, it has held its throne for FAR TOO LONG. Not only his first Bond movie was his best Bond in the eyes of the majority of the public but also his best action film or even his best work in his entire career. What I really I don't get is why it had to be SOOOO hard to give Pierce a really great on-screen work that is as great as GE when you have plenty of great talents out there like Tarantino or Ang Lee.
Pierce is not only the best and most popular Bond since Sean, but also he's a brand name actor. His image is a brand. Even his own name is a brand. A brand name actor like Pierce should not limit himself to be known as just Bond, especially when his first Bond was his only classic Bond. I'm not saying being remembered as Bond is bad, but to have a debut Bond as his last movie that appealed to the wider audience is just wrong. It's not normal. Pierce can do much better than this.

Pierce Brosnan is very well respected and critics say nice things about his work. But he's been underrated since after GE either his talents has been misused or his works went under radar.

Pierce has been wearing that underratedness stamp on his forehead ever since after GE. 19 years already and it's WAAAAYYYYY overdue.

This is our future people as everything James Bond is now past tense although we can still treasure the good old days of first 20 Bonds within the first 40 years of the cinematic Bond history.
