My first choice would have been for them to invite a respected author to write a new Bond novel - the approach they have followed with Markham/Amis and Faulks. But, Gardner was well up to the job of reinventing the literary James Bond and wrote some interesting books. I'm not too keen on Raymond Benson though.

I think his main appeal is the he is playing James Bond, which is evidently very, very popular.

Casino Royale had lots of action for people who like tjhat sort of thing. The production values were awful thought - epecially the casino scene and the pre credit sequence.

I voted for Moonraker as no one else had!
I love it because it has - wonderful production values, 1970's setting, and I love the background to Medding's models.

The John Barry credit theme in On Her Majesty's Secret Service is my favourite.

It is a James Bond movie. But for me, it belongs it is a new series.
There is the Eon Bond series, which ended with Die Another Day. Then you have Casino Royale, the retcon start of a new series. Lastly, you have the two Bond curios, namely Never Say Never Again, and the other Casino Royale movie.

Casino Royale seems to be regarded as a piece of art and a serious, stripped down depiction of Fleming. But when you look at the movie closely it's as stupid as the rest of the series.
