Diamonds Are Forever is the seventh spy film of the British James Bond series and the sixth to star Sean Connery as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. The film is based on Ian Fleming's 1956 novel of the same name, and is the second of four James Bond films directed by Guy Hamilton. The story has Bond impersonating a diamond smuggler to infiltrate a smuggling ring, and soon uncovering a plot by his former nemesis Blofeld to use the diamonds and build a giant laser satellite that would be used to hold the world to ransom.
Diamonds Are Forever was a commercial success, but was met with mixed reviews by critics due to the more humorous approach.

I voted for 8 out of 10. I like Diamonds garish early 1970's look, and I used to have a moon buggy toy.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

Even though in his early 40s, Sean does look bit too old in DAF.

No one is sure if Lazenby quit or was fired. But the fact was he was gone. Unknown actor John Gavin was signed up but Cubby and Harry knew that this was another huge risk. A decision was made to try to lure Connery back. It took a lot of pleading and a record breaking fee but Connery finally returned. No one seemed bothered with the fact that it was almost certainly for just one film.
Connery was now almost totally bald & looked facially older and heavier than before. Some people were shocked when they saw him make his entrance in the PTS. However ten years previous experience of playing Bond saw him move through the scenes without breaking sweat. Using charm and humour more than previously. He could still throw a punch and the elevator fight is one of the films highlights. He seemed to be enjoying playing Bond again.
The film itself is a mixed bag. A disappointing PTS is followed by a good theme tune. The henchmen are interesting and some of the action scenes are entertaining. There is a campness to the film, two gay henchman and a really camp Blofeld. The film lacks tension but is entertaining enough and steadied the ship.
Connery refused point blank further offers to continue playing Bond. Perhaps once the public saw Connery in DAF they may have also realised it was time for a change. Cubby and Harry also perhaps realised they needed to choose a well known actor to take the seris into the 70's.
8/10.

Even though in his early 40s, Sean does look bit too old in DAF. I have to agree totally with this. Connery looks so not his best in "Diamonds Are Forever". He would go on to look so fabulous and debonair in "Never Say Never Again"...made 12-13 years later! People are used to me putting a positive spin on everything Bond, but I'm going to shock you and tell you this 007 entry for me is almost painful to watch! Here are a few of my gripes: - the plot, or lack there of...diamond smuggling, Blofeld's scheme with the satellite, also trying to have men look like him, Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd...what a mess! - the movie's failure to do a great pre-titles sequence that would properly compliment "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and it's tragic ending. They originally planned the two movies to cross over (not unlike CR and QOS). They got your hopes up in the first minute, and then decided...nah! - following the fantastic likes of the devious Donald Plesance and the charming Telly Savalas in the part of Blofeld...let's cast Mr. Henderson from YOLT...Charles Gray??? - Jimmy Dean as Willard Whyte (not very good casting!) - Connery's appearance. He looks heavy, older than he is, tired, and bored. It's like he was saying: "Can I jushht pleasshhe have my money forrr the Shhhcottish education fund???" - after 007 disposes so ruthlessly of Peter Franks in the elevator at Jill's...Bond gets his arse whooped by "Bambi" and "Thumper"? There is some fun in this movie and some of Connery's best and most risque one-liners, but it makes for a very so/so Bond experience and is my least favorite of all of them. Thank God Sir Roger Moore came in, reinvigorated and saved the franchise following this dog with the classic "Live And Let Die". "Diamonds Are Forever" gets a generous 6 out of 10 from me! Take Care!

I haven't seen this for a while but it's definitely one of the campier entries.
