Next film in the list is 'For Your Eyes Only'. It is the twelfth spy film in the James Bond series, and the fifth to star Roger Moore as MI6 agent James Bond. It is based on two short stories from Ian Fleming's collection For Your Eyes Only: the title story "For Your Eyes Only" and "Risico".

Big budget sc fi films were still popular in the early 80's. However after sending Bond underwater and into space in the last two films it was time to keep his feet on planet earth.
Moore made his feelings clear about playing Bond during the filming of M, - 'Making a James Bond film is an extremley difficult process. There is a lot of hard physical work which needs to be done'. In 1980 he annonced he was quitting after finding out Cubby Brocoli had secretly been testing James Brolin. A few weeks later he signed up for FYEO, no doubt reassured that he was still Cubby's number one choice and that filming would not be so physically demanding. Playing a more mature and serious Bond, he gave a strong performance. However Carole Bouquet was a bit of a bland leading lady.
There are some decent action scenes in FYEO, such as the car and ski chases. However these are lenghthy and perhaps used to pad out the film. The PTS is not in the same class as in previous films. The cliff top climax & underwater scenes are tense and well done. There is no super villan or distinctive henchman in this film. No big sets or gadgets and less humour. This was generally welcomed at the time by Bond fans and FYEO did good box office.
In short FYEO is not the most memorable or spectcular Bond movie. However it is a decent effort at making a down to earth action/thriller. 8/10.

Why can't they have posters like this now - Roger was a great Bond because he could adapt to different movies. Unlike Daniel Craig who seems set on honing his dour psychopath Bond for the next fifthteen years. 8/10

7 out of 10. Not my favourite Bond film ever but Roger is very good in a less fantastical adventure.

I think Sir Rog's performance showed how adaptable and effective he could be as Bond. I agree. I think Daniel Craig is running into trouble as he can only play one type of Bond. It's great to have this film to make Roger's Bond canon more diverse.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

I wish Pierce did a Bond movie like this.

Despite the change of approach to the character Sir Roger still was the highlight of the film and, as ever, stole every scene he was in. Bond is more mature and serious here, but he was changed within reason - with no doubt it is the same man as in TSWLM and MR.
The car chase is one of the best in the series. Ski action is also very solid and the climbing is really breathtaking.
On the negative side: Kristatos is rather a blant villian, PTS - great from the action point of view - lacks tension and emmotions, that one could expect (it's Bond disposing of his worst enemy and killer of his beloved wife after all)

Good point. And I rather like the score too. Bill Conti isn't John Barry, but he's a decent composer. I especially enjoy the bit when Bond arrives in Spain driving his Lotus.

It's a bit disco and dated but that's part of the charm of Bond. The same film dressed up in the latest fashions as Roger Moore used to say.

Of course it is dated and too disco at times. But I'm not very fond of contemporary music either. Besides, as you said, it's part of the charm. With other, let's call it more serious, score FEYO would have been too dark, I think. Just as MR would have been too frivolous without enchanting orchestral tunes by John Barry.
