Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions Ltd and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures have today announced that Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale) will be the screenwriters of the 23rd James Bond adventure.
Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007 in the film, which will be a MGM release of an EON production. Bond 23 is the latest installment in the longest-running franchise in motion picture history and will be produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. A date for the start of production is yet to be confirmed.
“Peter, Neal and Robert are extraordinarily talented and we’re looking forward to working with the three of them,” commented Wilson and Broccoli.
Peter Morgan is the award-winning writer of such films as The Last King of Scotland, The Queen and Frost/Nixon, which was based on his play. He has also scripted the upcoming The Special Relationship for HBO and Hereafter for DreamWorks. He will turn his attention to Bond 23 on completion of these duties. Morgan is represented by UTA (US) and Independent Talent Group (UK).
Since 1991 Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have collaborated on a diverse range of projects including The Italian Job, Johnny English and the past four Bond films. They recently adapted John Le Carre's The Mission Song and are also working on the upcoming sequel The Brazilian Job. Purvis and Wade are represented by Endeavor (US), Casarotto Ramsay & Associates (UK).

The good news: Paul Haggis is out. He was a PC Hollywood wack job who was clueless about Fleming's world. I've even seen some reports that he's basically a commie--hey, that's his business but that ideology is completely opposite of what Fleming's Bond is all about. So that's another reason why Haggis was out of touch with the Bond character. The bad news: Eon turned to this Peter Morgan character to replace Haggis. Frost/Nixon, The Last King of Scotland, The Queen, were all bland forgettable films in my view. It was Helen Mirren who brought The Queen to life. But these films are practically forgotten by the masses, and they're certainly not known for this screenwriter, Peter Morgan. So for Eon to do a promo job with this guy is no different than Barbara Broccoli bragging that her gardener is writing the next script. The other bad news: we still got that hack duo, Purvis and Wade. And why are these two always functioning as a friggin' duo? Can't either them function without the other? It's like each doesn't have any independence.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

The good news: Paul Haggis is out. Good news or not, I want Bond 23 to fail BIG TIME, especially here in the US.

i.e: some professionals! The only Morgan work I have watched is The Deal, a British TV drama showing how Tony Blair and Gordon Brown had a meeting to decide who would be the leader of their political party.

The tabloids are full of nonsense about Micheal Sheen playing Blofeld in Bond 23. Eon don't even have the rights to use Blofeld!

The Sheen story is nonsense. Even if Eon could use Blofeld, why would Michael Sheen, who has a great career, want to take a supporting role in a James Bond film?

This is just unbelievable news about this scriptwriter Peter Morgan. He'll continue the high caliber emphasis that the series had with Paul Haggis. We're talking about sophisticated scriptwriters, and Eon is really pursuing that Masterpiece Theater kind of quality. That's how I see the series with Daniel Craig. It makes sense for Eon to go in this direction because Daniel is known as a dramatic actor. You know, Daniel probably pushed for Eon to go with a really intellectual writer like Peter Morgan because Michael Wilson said recently that Daniel wants to get started with the next film. I think there's something big going on here, that Daniel is like a co-producer now but Eon wants to ease into this news slowly because the excitement is too much for movie fans. This is really incredible news with Peter Morgan. I'm going to watch Frost/Nixon and see if there are dramatic scenes that could relate to Daniel's style and then report back here and share my findings. This is really incredible news!
