Goldeneye is the 17th spy film in the James Bond series, and the first to star Pierce Brosnan as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. The film was directed by Martin Campbell.
As usual please give the film a score out of 10 and add comments.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

10/10 for me. It's a big pity that GE is the only great Bond Pierce had though I enjoy his later Bonds better. GE is only a great debut for Pierce but also for a modern Bond era as well. Also, it's the most important installment in Bond history, considering it's the first Bond made after the Cold War. If you want to watch a modern day James Bond movie, watch this instead of CR and QOS as it has classical and traditional elements (Pierce especially) the last two Bond movies lacked. As for the soundtrack, it would have been better if David Arnold was a composer instead of Eric Serra, but I thought Serra's score fits perfectly with the movie as it has a Cold War feel to it. Though a modern day Bond, GE is a Cold War movie still.

Not my favourite but fun and I miss the days when James Bond could get away with a cravat. 8/10

GE deserves more 10s than 8s. It should be a solid 8/10. But I'll give it a 9 for you.

9/10. A great reboot for the series that meant the series could go into another decade and beyond.

Thinking outside the box, I would have liked to have seen Dalton playing a Bond who goes of the rails. The Sean Bean role, if you like. Dalton has always liked playing bad guys. He would have no doubt agreed to make a third Bond film if it was taking Bond somewhere new. The film could have gone into Bond's mind more to discover why he's gone off the rails.
Brosnan could have played 006 whose mission was to bring 007 down. Brosnan & Dalton sharing a screen would have been great. Only problem would have been Brosnan could not be called James Bond. But I like the name Alec Treveleyan.

Dalton give a terrific and focused "off the rails" Bond, in LTK. Bond has also been renegade through most of his movie career-Connery's opening sequence of DAF, Lazenby's attack on Blofeld's base in OHMSS.

It's a 9 from me. I consider GE to be Brosnan's best Bond film but not his best performance. The cast is good and the story is well paced.
I instantly felt that PB belonged in the role and it felt natural.

Hello, I'll never forget the excitement and anticipation waiting in line to see 'GoldenEye' after a six year hiatus of Bond films. Although I was sad Dalton was gone...Pierce fit 007 perfectly as as a glove as we see him break in to the chemical weapons facility in Russia during the pre-titles. Dame Judi Dench really put Bond in his place by calling him a "sexist, mysogynist, dinosaur. A relic of the Cold War. Who's boyish charms wasted on me obviously apprealed to that young girl I sent out to evaluate you.!" Yes, the cold war was over....but James Bond was back fighting a dangerous situation against probably my favorite villian of the series, his former friend and MI6 "00" agent, Alec Trevelyan. Played splendidly by Sean Bean, I might add. We got to see "Q", a gorgeous new Miss Moneypenny played by Samantha Bond: recreating that sexual chemistry and spark between her and Bond, the likes we hadn't seen since the scenes beteween Sean Connery / Roger Moore and the lovely late Lois Maxwell. Has there ever been a more sexy Bond villianess? Fanke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp? Killing men by squeezing then to death with her thights? Wow! Izabella Scorupco as James' main lady was not only beautiful...she showed strength, determination, and Boris that she knew alot more than a second level computer programmer. Great theme song by Tina Turner and Bono...plus great main titles! 'GoldenEye' really delivered the goods for the movie audiences who hadn't seen their favorite British Spy on the big screen for six years. I was blown away! Pierce Brosnan, before GE was released, was quoted as saying that "If I screw this up....it's a long ways down. "Needn't worry Pierce! TOP MARKS 007! 'Goldeneye' 10 / 10

9/10. A great entry after the long hiatus. It would have been a tragedy if Brosnan had not played Bond - he was born for the role.
I loved the cravat scene too!

It would have been a tragedy if Brosnan had not played Bond - he was born for the role. And EON ruined him by not giving him a great Bond that would matched with GE.

"Skywalker". That name sounds familiar. adam: did you want Bond to be a villian rather than a Bond who is defying the orders of MI6?
