or Hugh Jackman he will make our James bond looks like a gritiier pinokio with claws.... ;D Hello, It was widely reported in the media that Hugh Jackman was offered the role of Bond before Daniel was cast...but turned EON down when he wasn't allowed to see a script. I'm not sure I understand the reference to 'Pinoccio'? Take Care!

Hugh Jackman was offered the role of Bond? you were joking right? ;D It was also widely reported that EON never approach Jackman because He is too effete in real life... Here is a quote from an article which confirms EON's interest in Jackman over Craig... "Hugh Jackman is another pre-Craig “Casino Royale” footnote that simply won’t be forgotten in the modern media age.
In August, two months prior to Craig’s unveiling as the only actor ever considered for Bond, it was announced that Australian Hugh Jackman had turned down a three picture offer to play Bond.
Despite the old line efforts to wish away the past offer to Jackman with statements that Craig was the only actor offered the part; Cinema Eye, Movie Hole, Coming Soon, Ireland’s Public Service Broadcaster RTE, Sydney Morning Herald, The Hollywood Reporter, and many other news groups are undeniable sources of news to the contrary."You can read the entire article at: www.movievine.com/movies/article00247.shtml Hope that clears things up, Chuck! Take Care!

I've read a few items on the casting of Daniel Craig. I get the impression that Barbara Broccoli wanted Daniel Craig....but the studio did not want to take a risk. So, Broccoli had to look like she was considering others. But she said Hugh Jackman was feminine and Eric Bana was too ugly. Craig was screentested against Ewen Stewart and some 20 year olds. She did what she had to do to get her man.

After his appointment, the official line was obviously that he was first choice. If that is the case, not sure why he was appointed three years after DAD. All the early rumours were about other actors and there were sometimes rumours of Brosnan signing on for a fifth. The DC rumours did'nt start for along time and he was never mentioned in the media or on fan sites as a potential Bond.
After his appointment, an official annoncement of why other actors did'nt get the part came out - Bana, not handsome enough (like DC is handsome), Mcgregor, too short (like DC is tall) etc. However there was no mention of Owen, Bale and Jackman.
Only Jackman has mentioned Bond, saying he was approached but not allowed to read the script. DC was allowed to read the script. Which either suggests that DC was Brocoli's first choice, or she knew that a star like Jackman would reject the script.

Jackman did'nt reject the script. He was never given a script to read. He rejected the advances of Brocoli and MJW because they would'nt let him read the script. An established, wealthly and serious actor like Jackman would'nt sign up to any film without reading the script first. Jackmans words nearer the time were 'To say I was offerred the part is wrong, they approached me but would'nt let me read the script. Right now I am happy making the 'X Men' films and there will be a film about 'Wolverine'.
I do not know whether Owen was approached or screen tested etc. He was a fans favourite long before DC name came up.

Clive Owen was on Jonathan Ross recently and said that the Bond thing was mere press speculation and that no one ever asked him to do it. Gerard Butler never tested either & Christian Bale wasn't tapped up despite saying once he'd like a crack at the role. We ended up with 38-year-old Daniel Craig testing alongside a bunch of unknown twentysomething actors who were subsequently dismissed as looking 'too young' (Who would have guessed! ) to be James Bond. I think we can conclude that no one other than Daniel Craig had a hope in hell of being cast.

If Owen was'nt approached, its surprising. Considering the fan sites and media had him as a favourite. It is BB's job to give the public what they want afterall. However Owen was becoming a big star so BB may have not wanted the embarressment of having an approach turned down. Just like Jackman had done. Ditto for Bale who was an even bigger star than Owen. Bale may have said he wanted a shot at Bond in the 90's before he got the Batman gig. Brosnan needed Bond in 1995. He had finished with 'Remington Steel' and apart from the odd decent film, had made a seris of duds & T.V. movies. Owen, Jackman & Bale did not need Bond in 2005.
For some reason BB had a thing about casting a blonde & did'nt seem too bothered about height. She wanted 5ft.10 Sean Bean in 1995. She finally got a blonde in 2005.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible
