This thread is turning into a Will Hay film. I haven't seen any footage from the launch myself but I understand any suggestion that Craig isn't a perfect fit for the 007 imagery and photo calls that come with the role. Timothy Dalton was regarded by some to be stiff and wooden but he had the Bondish looks to pull off a picture such as the one below...

I haven't used the poll function yet so I thought I'd try this.

Hello, A very good friend of mine asked me recently what films I'm most looking forward to next year. I immediately mentioned "Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull" and "The Dark Knight". She was absolutely shocked. She mentioned my passion for James Bond, my quoting lines from the movies, reading the books, my extensive 007 collectibles, and she said she couldn't believe I didn't mention the next Bond film. I was surprised, as well. I then added, almost as an afterthought: "Oh, yes...and the next Bond film, too." As much fun as it will be to see Indy cracking his bull whip again, or Christian Bale donning the cowl once more to take on the Joker, nothing should take precedent over my excitement of seeing our favorite British Secret Agent in action again. I sincerely hope this next Babs Broccoli concoction has at least a few of the familiar Bond elements...the gun barrel sequence before the pre-titles, the Bond theme (hello David Arnold?) and maybe a gadget or two. I've already written off Miss Monneypenny and "Q". I will see the next Bond movie in a nice, big, beautiful multiplex near me, and will have guarded optimism as I say: "One for James Bond, please." Take Care! Send us a review for the site next november Alec. You sound like you have more of an open mind!

I will probably watch it to do a review for the site but it wouldn't bother me that much at this point if I missed it or saw it on DVD. With CR I knew Craig wasn't going to be my Bond (or idea of a James Bond) but the reviews were so fantastic I actually expected to have to admit they'd made an excellent film. In the end I felt indifferent to both the film and Craig. It all comes down to personal tastes in the end and this current Daniel Craig/Paul Haggis reading of Bond is my own personal 'dark age'. I don't like the somewhat worthy and humourless approach and the bloke playing Bond, no matter how many magazine covers they slap him on, just flat out does not look like a James Bond to me.

Have they cast anyone in this film yet other than Craig & Dench? No juicy rumours floating around?

Perhaps they could get Daniel Craig to finish the script. That man is a genius.

To be fair, it must be a lot more difficult without a Fleming novel to take characters and situations from.

Moore's first conquest was the great Maddie Smith wasn't it? Yes, and I did not recognize Miss Caruso when I saw her, and when I said to her, "Finalmente", she had to think about where that came from, until she realized it was from LALD. Madeline's finest hour was starring with Frankie Howerd in the films Up Pompei and Up The Front. Although I don't think that will mean much to you BJ. (Madeline was a staple of seventies British comedy).

Congrats to Sir Roger, a real life Saint. I thought he deserved his own thread so I put it in the news section. Check out the picture of Roger and Richard Kiel. Great stuff.

When I watched Ca sino Royale I was amazed at how patchy the first half was. People say Brosnan couldn't decide how to play Bond but CR was all over the shop in the first half. Craig starts off composed, then he's Jason Statham in the construction chase, then he's in a Pierce Brosnan film tapping away at some mobile telephone gadget, then he's Bruce Willis in a 1989 action film hanging onto the back of a lorry, then he's Roger Moore on the train ("I'm the money" "Every penny!"), then he's Daniel Craig British thespian chewing up the scenery during the torture scene.... That's a good point. The first half of the film was constructed mostly without the novel, which probably explains it.

BJMDDS what do you think ? BJ was kidnapped by Eon and is now being held at a secure location. I'll keep everyone posted.

Ever since the "Bourne" movies have come on the scene, the makers of James Bond have been in the line of fire for having a dusty lethargic spy on their hands -- "Casino Royale" notwithstanding. The Hollywood Reporter today stats that it looks like EON Prods., Columbia Pictures and MGM might be kicking it up a notch for the next Bond film. Taking a page from the "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" handbook, the production has hired "Bourne Supremacy" and "Bourne Ultimatum" action designer Dan Bradley as the film's second unit director. ......A Quote for..... BJMDDS I'd prefer a Bond film to a Bond film trying to be a Bourne film. I can go and watch a Bourne film if I want that, and they'll do it better.

I think Craig was slightly flattered by the PR push for CR, which of course any alternative actor would have got. If Cavill had done CR Sony/Eon would have had everyone thinking he was Marlon Brando by the time the film came out. I like Craig in some roles and he's a good actor but James Bond? Not for me. I wonder if that world's best dressed man thing was in the bag and waiting for whoever they cast as Bond. Cynical? Not me. That was a genuine award voted for by the general public. I should know. I won it seven years in a row before Daniel Craig came along with his luminous waistcoats. You may remember the Greg Haugen fashion line from a few years ago...

I have known BJMDDS now for close to 40 years... his articulate and knowledgeable comments should be taken with the utmost attention. A true Bond Fan anywhere could not be found and please with the present company of others around him within this forum do not think for a moment this is a dis of yourselfs.....BJ researches, and presents valid points with facts and not just bland statements. I agree with many of his views but I find myself at a speed bump disagreeing with him that Daniel Craig was apoor choice.....It is a pleasure to be able to disagree and banter our own views within a forum of our peers....... Welcome new recruit SAS from the good ol' USA. I believe we may have seen Connery's DAF together in 1971. I will convince you over time that Craig is a passing spy fad, and that Bond must remain the leader of the spy genre film pack, not the follower. Post here more often and enlighten us with your acumen! That must have been an interesting period. Three different Bonds in three films (1969, 1971, 1973). And welcome to the forum sas.

Had Butler,Owen,Jackman, etc., been given the script for CR This brings up another issue I'm unclear on: Was Owen permitted to base his decision on the script? I believe Jackman has stated that he was offered the role, but was denied access to a script. We know Craig was ultimately provided the script, but were any other candidates? The main candidates apart from Craig were Sam Worthington and Henry Cavill. That was more or less the choice they had to make in 2005. Craig, Cavill or Worthington. To be honest I don't think Barbara Broccoli was ever going to allow anyone other than Daniel Craig to do the film. I'm not sure if anyone knows exactly what happened with Owen. He needed Bond a lot less than Craig. Gerard Butler, a fan favourite to replace Brosnan, was shunned for reasons best known to Eon. The two articles below look at Butler and Owen. www.alternative007.co.uk/54.htmwww.alternative007.co.uk/28.htm
