If we had to choose an American Bond actor in the eighties my vote would have gone to Sir Dirk Benedict. ;D

I thought BB said Eric Bana was too effete. The Eon memo apparently said Eric Bana wasn't handsome enough to be Bond and yet they cast Daniel Craig. You couldn't make it up.

Anyone here planning to see Harry Potter 6 this week? I'm there. I've never read any of the books and only watched the first Harry Potter film. I thought it was ok but I'm not a big fan. Were the other films better than the first?

I see the big trilogy idea for the new re booted Bond was quietly shelved. No reason given. I can reveal the real reason. Those muppets at Eon ran out of plot after one and a half films.

Who wants William Shatner in the next Star Trek film? I say save him until Star Trek XIII. Do you think they have a plan where they can wrap up this new alternate Kirk idea in Star Trek XIII? Or are they going to keep this new alternate universe going into several more films and a TV show?

Yes, after seen the film, I'm grateful that EON not consider Clive to replace Brosnan I heard Shoot 'Em Up was terrible. Shoot Em Up was good fun. I'd recommend a watch. I agree with atticus that Barbara Broccoli has changed Bond. What a pity that Cubby left the series to a woman who seems to hate James Bond films. Barbara produces a few other bits such as the upcoming Jackman Craig Broadway play. Why didn't she make some new spy film with Daniel Craig as the spy. Then she could have carried on making James bond films with the James Bond character too.

The darker Quantum of Solace was criticized and it looks as if Bond 23 will see Daniel Craig play a more humourous Bond. I'm not sure if he can handle a charming, humourous James Bond. I have not watched Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace more than once so it is difficult for me to comment on Craig's handling of the gags in any detail. But from what I can remember, his delivery was rather wooden (to put it mildly). In Casino Royale we had the swiss chocolate gag. I also remember a scene where Bond had to talk to a female receptionist in the country club near the start. Brosnan or Connery would have made you laugh with their facial expressions, but Craig's Bond stood there looking like a serial killer! In Quantum of Solace I remember a scene with another receptionist where Craig adopted a cockney accent. He adopted this cockney accent a few times - he did it in the opera scene too. Maybe this adoption of a cockney accent was a way to make humourous lines less wooden. I have read some posts on other forums extolling Craig's comedy skills in his Bond films. They say things like "Did you see that bit in QOS where Bond said :"Two coffees hold the sugar"? What subtle wit". So perhaps I am not sophisticated enough to appreciate the humour in these new Craig Bond films.

Not a bad idea. A new tv series would only make sense if they moved the timeline forward and did something new. The problam is that new Star Trek will be put on hold to make this new run films. I think the Next Generation crew needed one more film but that's very unlikely to happen now. It's a shame that a new TV series won't be made for a while. I loved the old days when they had two Star Trek shows on the go at the one time!
