Cubby said to Ogilvy in 86 that if he was looking for another Roger Moore, he would be first choice. However they were looking to go back to a Connery type Bond.

Ogilvy was 43 in 1986, but looked very youthful in the early 80's 'Return of the Saint'. He's 6 feet so could have done a job.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

Like disco, Moore-type Bonds were wearing off.

Yeah, it was time for a different approach.

Ogilvy in the eighties must have looked something like this.

A bulked up Ogilvy would have looked good. He had darker hair than Moore. Don't know if he could play it tough like Sean or sensitive like Dalton. We'll never know. Ogilvy wasn't too old in 86. Cubby choose Roger, Tim and Pierce when in their 40's. Maybe Cubby thought everyone would compare him to Roger too much, especially after 'The Return of The Saint'.

What happened to the Saint of the 90's, Simon Dutton ? He pops up on various UK tv shows; I'm sure he was on New Tricks. We need a new Saint show! What a pity the James Purefoy version fell through.

Looks like a 90's Bond to me. There's only one 90's Bond, and that's Pierce.

Saw the new X-Men trailer and I'm starting to think Fassbender could be Bond.

Fassbender is interesting, but I prefer the 7th Bond to be someone around Cavill's age or little younger.

Simon Dutton must have been mentioned for Bond - most people have.

My favourite time for that was 1986 - Gibson, Sellick, Neil, Mccorkindale, Reeve, John James, Charles Dance were all at one stage going to be the new Bond. Unknown Aussie Finlay Light made the front pages by claiming he'd been asked to sign up for 7 films. Brosnan remained the favourite throughout. Dalton's name was only mentioned days before he became Bond.
