I remember that story. Cubby didn't seem to like him!

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

Lewis wanted what Tim wanted.....a gritty Bond as in Fleming's books.

I'm sure it was Barbara who got him the interview. She must have watched him on the telly.

Her standards have obviously slipped since then.

Just went into YouTube and type in 'James Bond Screen Tests'. Saw a clip of a French film with John Gavin. Very smooth, tall, dark and handsome. Had a real Bond look.

Gavin reminds me of a 1962 Connery in that clip.
Loved Sean's charm on DAF. But he was a bit overweight with a thinning thatch. Anyone think a bulked up Gavin may have been a better bet ? But after Lazenby can't blame Cubby for playing safe.

I think John Gavin would have played Bond in Diamonds Are Forever if Sir Sean had not come back for another. That would have meant no Roger Bonds!

The comments on YouTube of this clip are mixed. But most think Gavin would have been an excellent Bond. I'm sure he could do one liners like Moore. You don't have to be Brando to do that. He was also young so could have played Bond for several films without starting to look too old like Moore & Connery. Having said that I loved the Sir Roger era.

Must admit he looked a bit wooden in some of the scenes. But it was a tacky French film. I'm sure Cubby and Harry would have got more out of him.

Here's another Gavin picture. Very Bondish.

In the "olden days" Bond the look of a Bond actor was taken into consideration when casting the role. That does not seem to be the case now.
Gavin appears in Psycho too.

John Gavin would have been perfect for Bond.
