It seems that thousands of actors have been linked to the role of James Bond 007.
I have my favourites who I would have liked to play Bond.
Here is my choice for each decade. It would be interesting to hear of other peoples' choices.
60's
Patrick McGoohan. He turned it down. Bond would have been different if he had got the part.
70's
Jeremy Brett. The greatest Sherlock Holmes of them all would have been a dashing Moore like Bond.
80's
Lewis Collins. The Professionals star was born to play Bond but Cubby did not like him.
90's
James Purefoy. Watching him in Rome recently made me regret that he did not get Bond.
00's
Sam Worthington. Reboot Bond by all means with an origin story. But cast a young actor, and Worthington was my favourite of the young Bond candidiates.

A Lewis Collins Bond film would have been hilarious. Bodie as 007!

I'm not sure about Jeremy Brett. Maybe it's becasue my image of him is as a sleight (in build not performance) Sherlock Holmes.

Clive Owen should have made a Bond film. He was a very obvious choice - just like Brosnan.

How about Richard Burton in the early sixties?

Lewis Collins was the choice in my school back in the 80's. With slicked back hair and some work in the gym he would have looked great. Women used to camp outside his house, such was his sex appeal. He would have played it tough but could have done some Roger Moore one liners with a smirk on his face. However he would not have suited the soppy romance scenes Dalton did or been a PC Bond. So it did'nt happen.

I think Cubby didn't like him.
Lewis Collins would was similar to Brosnan in that he is not a respected actor, but is perfect for Bond. Or maybe I'm being unfair on Brosnan because he has made some interesting films lately.

Jon Finch. He played Blaney in Frenzy. He was also originally cast as John Hurt's character in Alien, I believe?

Most of the actors that played Bond were solid choices. However some people think they should have been Bond earlier. Moore would have suited DAF but was contracted to 'The Persuaders'. He may have even become Bond in 1962 if he was'nt tied to 'The Saint'. Cubby Brocoli was also interested in Dalton in the early 70's. Apparantly Dalton was flattered but declined his advances. The popular and well known Moore was probably the right choice in 73 but would a younger Dalton have breathed fresh life into Bond in the early 80's FYEO & O ? He would have definatly improved AVTAK as Moore gave his worst performance in that and looked much too old. People think Dalton should have still been Bond for G. He may have given his best performance and showed everyone what a great Bond he is. But Brosnan was given his chance after missing out in 1986. Would Brosnan have improved TLD & LTK ? Well he was only 33 but looked much younger. He was quite lightweight & did'nt have a great screen presence. In hindsight maybe it was better that he got the part eight years later.

I think Brosnan was probably too young in 86. He actually still looked very young in GE. But it's funny that they always tried to get an actor that was either very young or youthful looking: Moore in 62, Lazenby, Dalton in the early 70's, Brosnan in 86. And then of course when they finally decided to make a film that actually required a very young James Bond... ;D

The they cast Daniel Craig as the young Bond. Arrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhh!!!
