I can't see Barbara ever selling her rights although it would be nice to see someone else have a go.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

What would be like if Joel Silver bought the rights from Cubby in the early 1990s?

Cubby wanted Mel Gibson as Bond too according to some accounts. Around the time of The Year of Living Dangerously and Mad Max 2 he would have been a reasonable choice. I thought he became too hammy and smug onscreen when he became a really big star.

It's good thing Mad Mel didn't became Bond due to his devilish attitude.

Cubby said Mel was too short to be Bond. He had a point. Imagine how silly it would be if Bond had to wear shoe lifts.

If Mad Mel did GE 15 years ago, would you still watch today or no because of his devilish attitude?

It would have been incredible if that Cubby Broccoli hired Daniel Craig back in the 80s, right around the time Mel Gibson was doing the Mad Max films. Daniel would've been really young and he and audiences round the world would have grown together up to now, with all sorts of generations just being oriented to his James Bond.

If Mad Mel did GE 15 years ago, would you still watch today or no because of his devilish attitude? The media's latest fascination appears to be conducting polls asking people if they would still watch Mel in a movie. Most say they would by a wide margin. It's probably little comfort to the people in charge of promoting his next film, but I don't think those tapes will be the career killer many predicted. If you boil those messages down, you find a drunk guy who thinks he has lost everything over a love. I imagine most people over a certain age can probably relate- either personally or via someone they know. The ones who got the biggest kick out of it online (and never tired of the video parodies) were probably kids with no real life experience.

Hello, The idea of Craig being cast in the '80's is borderline insane. Sir Roger Moore didn't give up his 'Licence To Kill' until 1985 with his swan song "A View To A Kill". Daniel Craig would've been around 18 years old when filming began on "The Living Daylights" in 1986. Timothy Dalton intelligently turned down 'Cubby's offer to be Bond in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" when he was 24....feeling that he was far too young for the role. I am not a Daniel Craig basher. In fact, I think he's extremely talented and I have come to accept and really enjoy him as 007. But an 18 year old James Bond? It congers up images of the "James Bond Jr." cartoon. Come on, can we please be a little realistic here?

Come on, can we please be a little realistic here? That's a great idea that you brought up, with Daniel Craig being 18 at that time. That's really what I meant but you expressed it nicely. Can you imagine the coolness of that, seeing so much drama in a very young James Bond in Daniel? The Living Daylights would have a completely different story. We would probably get to see Daniel's Bond in the navy and then through the years we would get to see him in his 20s, growing up before our eyes through the years. The audience would also grow with him, seeing Daniel change over the years into an adult James Bond. Films like TND and TWINE would have different storylines, probably focusing more on character development for Bond. Then when CR kicks in, Daniel's Bond would be a full adult and Eon wouldn't need to reboot. I know some fans complained that CR wasn't enough of a reboot in terms of being an origin story. But in this kind of timeline, Eon would get to avoid that controversy.
