www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/a150086/clive-owen-bond-never-on-my-agenda.htmlClive Owen: 'Bond never on my agenda'Clive Owen has denied that the role of James Bond has ever been part of his plans as an actor. The Duplicity star was asked by thelondonpaper if had ever uttered the catchphrase "Bond, James Bond" in front of a mirror. Owen replied: "Definitely not. It's never been on my agenda. "All the talk that was going around was just media speculation and I'm really happy doing what I'm doing." He added that he has "no idea" about the possibility of a sequel to Sin City but said that he had a "great time" working with director Robert Rodriguez.

Oddly enough though, he does seem to be doing a lot of Bond type roles. His next film is another spy caper if I'm not mistaken.

I'm a fan of Clive Owen. I'd have enjoyed his Bond. The thing that annoys me about Daniel Craig's Bond is that there a hundreds of handsome actors who look like Bond who could have played Bond.
If Jackman, Owen or Bale were unavailable....then choose someone else with the look. Was Daniel craig the only actor in the whole world who was willing to play James Bond>

If Jackman, Owen or Bale were unavailable.... those three unavailable? really? the truth is those three never being considered by EON, Jackman approach was only Barbara tactics to please the STUDIO. EON pretend to approach Jackman to show effort that EON has try but being "turned down" by Jackman. He never the first choice Clive? i believe because he was killed in Jason Bourne (Identity) which its rival series to the franchise, made him never being considered...hhehehe, sorry stupid analysis...

Perhaps BB simply does'nt want to approach an actor that has established himself in cinema movies to be Bond. Maybe they know these people will turn down the role or be too demanding. They may not be grateful enough to get the opportunity & want too much input into the character and films. Who knows how film stars think. People like Owen, Bale & Jackman in 2005 may have thought Bond would be a backward step. It would see them having to play the same character for several years, restrict their acting progress and invade their private life.
Connery & Lazenby were unknowns in the film world before Bond. Moore had made some cinema films but was really only famous for his T.V. work. Dalton had done bits and pieces as well as theatre work, but was also unknown before Bond. Brosnan had branched out into cinema & T.V. films after RS. But most of the films were duds. He was still most famous for being the man that nearly became Bond. Craig was unknown and still doing T.V. work prior to Bond.
Interesting that the only other actors we know for sure were screen tested in 2005 were Cavill and Worthington. WHO ?

Ewan Stewart was in the final four for Casino Royale, according to reports in 2006. He was in his late forties then! Barbara screentested Ewan Stewart - who could be seen as too old. Henry Cavill, who could be seen as too young. Goran Visnijc - who could be seen as unsuitable because he is a Croatian. I've spotted a conspiracy to get Daniel Craig cast! Ewan Stewart:

Ewan who ? Late 40's. Considering she thought Brosnan too old at 50 I can't believe it. Goran Visnijc, unless he had a clear British voice with no accent was also a non starter.

It would see them having to play the same character for several years, restrict their acting progress and invade their private life. Few established actors want to be typecast as Bond- particularly at this point in the franchise. It simply carries way too much baggage. EON faces a similar problem when trying to lure directors. This is the only problem I ever had with Owen, since I never felt he would commit to 4 or 5 movies. If they had offered him CR as a one-shot deal, he probably would've accepted.

I suppose getting big name directors could cause almighty battles. They may have their own ideas about which direction Bond should go in which may be different to BB. Neither BB or a Speilberg, Tarentino etc would give way. Perhaps that is the real reason why Cubby Brocoli turned down Speilbergs overtures in 1980.

Plus name directors would cost more money and Eon/Bond is a producer dominated business.

It would'nt of made sense for Eon to consider Owen as Bond. Afterall was only the media and fans favourite for the role !

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible
