Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

I wonder what he thinks of DC's Bond.

If these rumours are true then Craig has had a strange run since the euphoria that greeted Casino Royale. First that girl who played Mrs Strawberries - or whatever her name was in Quantum of Solace - said Craig is so short he has to wear shoe lifts for Bond. Then QOS was panned by the critics and fans. Then we have these rumours.
Someone must have cursed him.

Would Daniel Craig fans not like his Bond anymore if this was true?
I don't mind if Bond is played by a gay actor, but Craig being gay would not affect me as I don't watch his Bond anyway.

This story hasn't really been picked up widely so I think it will fade away as gossip.

I've noticed a biased in the coverage of this alleged scandal: the die hard Craig fans at one Bond forum were either dismissing the report without any objective discussion, and some were even demanding that the thread be removed. I've been curious to see how these Craig fans would respond to this scandal, so I checked the same forum again this morning and couldn't find the thread. At another Bond forum, the news wasn't even covered at all (unless I just didn't see it).

This story hasn't really been picked up widely so I think it will fade away as gossip. For the sake of the franchise, let's hope that it continues to go away quietly. But even as gossip, I think it added another layer of bad publicity to an already troubled franchise, considering the MGM chaos and the uncertainty of Bond 23, and the speculation of who would replace Craig. Surprisingly, Craig hasn't come out to rebut this report. Maybe he and his PR team think that responding to it will only give it dignity. I get the logic in that, if that's their tactic. But the real scandal here (if true) is not about the revelation of his sexual orientation but this business of cavorting with someone (to put it in a subtle way) while he's supposedly engaged to Satsuki Mitchell. If this is false, you'd think Craig would rebut this gossip in some way out of respect for her and their relationship. Anyway, I agree with BJMDD that if this is all true, it would only suggest that Craig has some serious issues.

My initial impression was that Craig is such an ordinary looking guy, I'd be surprised if a random onlooker was able to spot him under such conditions. This is especially true if we assume Craig was trying to keep a low profie- which seems to be his usual pattern of behavior.
But at the same time, there's always that chance that he might just be a gay actor. It's not like it would be the most shocking thing in the world. He also seems to be attached to such rumors quite a bit. (Just a few months ago, he was openly spotted hanging out in gay clubs.)
Either way, it's a bit hypocritical for his fans to get upset at the rumor, especially if they do so while offering the obligatory "not that there's anything wrong with that" disclaimer.

If DC is gay, how would it affect the World of Bond? I don't think it would be a huge deal these days but I might be wrong. I think if an actor was suspected of being gay in the seventies or eighties he would not have got near Bond but it might be different now.

I think if an actor was suspected of being gay in the seventies or eighties he would not have got near Bond but it might be different now. Younger fans probably wouldn't have much trouble with the idea, but it would likely be a problem for many older fans- of which Bond has plenty. It would also be financially risky for the series in more conservative parts of the world. One reason it would be a bigger deal than normal is because we're dealing with such a masculine icon like James Bond. Look at the way Rupert Everett was treated back when he used to express interest in the role. (Even today, he admits that coming out negatively affected his career.) Or consider the way Craig's fans currently act as though the very idea is meant to be a slur on his character. The fact that Craig once suggested the films could easily have Bond exploring homosexuality probably wouldn't help much either.

My classmates and I have been talking about this news. We are progressives so we don't have problems with daniel being gay if this is true. This is not about Daniel sexual orientation. This is about how he is a true liberator. He also appeals to feminists with his Bond and is bringing us altogether. Nobody is left out, this is social justice. I mean, it's unbelievable how on a personal level he's liberating us guys. Just look at how his guy fans feel about him, some of them are straight but can express their feelings for him because that's what Daniel is about. He is helping us guys reach our inner feelings when for so long we were taught to be tough and hide how we feel. I mean, look at that other member here like that guy Jet willy, he gave an awesome review of CR and wasn't ashamed to reveal his excitement for Daniel when he saw Daniel in those swimming trunks. Can you imagine his bravado, by not being ashamed of pointing out his arousal? He's a courageous man. So if this is true, Daniel is only showing the way for all of us to be in touch with our true being. Maybe that's what he's doing, he knows he's a role model and is showing everyone not to be afraid of their true identity. I can tell you, he's changed lives of my buddies.

Hello, Harrypalmer is right. This is not a major/serious story. I also think 'scandal' is a strong word. A scandal is when someone in the limelight is accused of a felony or something criminal. My inital backlash to Daniel Craig as Bond has really faded. I was upset because he didn't 'physically' look the part. When he was announced as the new 007, I rented 'Layer Cake' and thought he was phenomenal! Also, I've come to really appreciate his performance in 'Casino Royale' and he did the best with what he had to work with in 'Quantum Of Solace'. In my humble opinion...Daniel Craig is one hell of a great actor and what goes on in his personal life for me is none of my business and irrelevant. Just my two cents worth. Take Care!
