The threads on this keep vanishing in other places. I'm sure it's probably not a major/serious story but they seem a little touchy about even discussing the possibility of it. Hello, Harrypalmer is right. This is not a major/serious story. I also think 'scandal' is a strong word. A scandal is when someone in the limelight is accused of a felony or something criminal. My inital backlash to Daniel Craig as Bond has really faded. I was upset because he didn't 'physically' look the part. When he was announced as the new 007, I rented 'Layer Cake' and thought he was phenomenal! Also, I've come to really appreciate his performance in 'Casino Royale' and he did the best with what he had to work with in 'Quantum Of Solace'. In my humble opinion...Daniel Craig is one hell of a great actor and what goes on in his personal life for me is none of my business and irrelevant. Just my two cents worth. Take Care! I too think the Alecster should post more! Perhaps after 5 years you have got used to someone with Daniel Craig's look as Bond. I'll happily watch Craig in movies such as The Trench, Tomb Raider and anything else he pops up in. But I still feel he was poor choice for a young Bond and does not have the charm to be a great Bond. Quantum of Solace was difficult for him as a 35 year old Sean Connery starring as Bond in it could not have made that nonsense watchable.

I think it won't matter to people if Daniel Craig is gay. He's given so much to us, has been an inspiration to many, that people will accept him for who he is. It's also 2010, and all that rude womanizing that Sean Connery started in the 60s is outdated. These are politically correct times, that's the culture now and we can't marginalize women into sex objects or exclude feminists and gays by just having an adventure film for just straight men. Nobody is left out now with Daniel as Bond. That's what I've learned from my professor and classmates, and when you look at the Bond films in terms of modern culture in that way, it becomes a deeply moving experience.

Hello,
I do not consider myself 'part of Barbara Broccoli's evil Empire'. I am a purist who is a life long fan of the James Bond legacy.
As much as I think he's a wonderful actor...I never would've cast Daniel Craig as 007 in 2004. (Can you say Henry Cavill?)
Physically, I never felt he was right for the part and he was too old to play a young James Bond just getting his "00" status.
I guess not alot of you know that Timothy Dalton is my favorite Bond actor. Mostly because he's phenomanally talented, he made 007 more human, and he went back to Bond's roots and was very Fleming-esque.
I guess despite my misgivings...Craig brings that to the table, but not nearly as good as Timothy did.
I've have grown to radically accept Craig as Bond because he does many things well and I'll always be a fan of this franchise till the day I die...through great times and uncertain times...come what may.
Take Care!

I sense that QOS went a long way towards defusing the whole anti-Craig furor. After all, it's hard to get too worked up over Craig now, since he's in the same boat as all the previous actors: He had a successful debut (just like all the other Bonds) followed by a disappointing sequel. Connery alone remains the actor most identified with having a great Bond record- if only because he managed to notch such a solid string of films during his intitial run.
The fact that Craig was the first actor to assume the role during the internet age just led many fans to lose their minds for a while. Younger fans always want to believe that "their" Bond will be the one to usher in a new golden age. It happened with Dalton and again with Brosnan. QOS kind've brought all of that crashing back down to reality. It also served to diminish Craig's claim to being "Fleming's Bond", since they opted to further present the character as such a generic action hero.
I still have zero interest in Craig's portrayal, and feel he didn't bring anything to CR that wasn't already in the script. But that just means there's one actor out of many that I didn't enjoy. Some Craig fans limit their choices even more than that- opting to acknowledge only one or two of the previous films or actors. Then there are fans who have little interest in the more obscure Bonds, such as the original CR, NSNA, or even Lazenby's one attempt.
At its core, the Bond franchise continues to be a very diverse canon that audiences love to cherry-pick. Craig now finds himself relegated to being just another link in the chain- as opposed to an actor that managed an unblemished record.

DC is the first actor to make me feel "That's not Bond!" which is a shame as I liked all of the previous actors. I'm starting to feel that the Bond series really ended in 1989 with Cubby. These periodic entries that Barbara & MGW churn out now and again just don't feel the same.

alvin....would you really mind if Bond is made into a gay character? I'll admit that I'm a little uncomfortable with a gay James Bond but I've come to learn from my progressive friends that we have to look at the big picture and see things from a social justice perspective. It's more important that we don't marginalize any group, and that outlook is bigger than my personal view, so if Daniel Craig is gay then that's ultimately OK with me. He's already changed my life when I saw how he was so cool when he went through that initial backlash, and he made me realize that it's OK just to be yourself. Now if they keep the bond character straight but it turns out that Daniel is gay in real life, then that's OK with me too. So long as the producers keep things politically correct like the way they're doing things now, I'm good. Daniel has been inspirational for so many man. I mean, even for me I find him inspirational in many ways. Like when I play sports, like vollyball, I'm not good at that. But when I picture Daniel playing a game and put myself in his place, I start to feel confident.

People are just so respectful of Daniel Craig, so I think this "scandal" will not be a big fuss. I think a bigger problem in the next bond film is whether the producers will be strong and maintain political correctness. I mean, they better not demonize the villain as a terrorist like what Christopher Nolan did with the Joker in The Dark Night. He was shown setting up explosions and terrorizing hospitals. I hope Barbara Broccoli doesn't do that, I hope she even uses the same terms that President Obama uses, terms like Overseas Contigency Plan insead of "the war on terror." In fact, that would be really cool if the next Bond film had lots of references to the President because he and Daniel are sort of the same, they have become media sensations.
