Hello,
FormerBondfan and myself have been exchanging e-mails for awhile now on the subject of Pierce Brosnan getting back to some familiar territory and doing a kick-a#$ action movie.
Think about this....How diverse Pierce Brosnan can be in acting roles is no longer in question, and he definitely made a huge, positive impact on the 007 franchise. I think fans would love to see him return to an all out action role, not unlike Sean Connery in ‘The Rock”.
As you may have read in my article 'Pierce Brosnan - Always Relevant' - he was seriously considered for the role of Bruce Wayne / Batman in Tim Burton's 1989 blockbuster. Warners felt Brosnan could do the suave, charming and quirky billionaire Bruce Wayne and also convey some darkness as the Caped Crusader. We all know, however, that Burton had his eye on his 'Beetle Juice' star and the part went to Michael Keaton.
Currently....Warner Brothers have a few DC Batman graphic novels depicting a much older Bruce Wayne that are being considered for big screen adaptations. IMO, Mr. Brosnan would be an ideal candidate as an older Bruce Wayne / Batman in one of these graphic novel adventures. This summer, “The Expendables” is an upcoming ensemble high action film written by David Callham and Sylvester Stallone, and directed by Sly Stallone. The film pays tribute to the blockbuster action films of the 1980s and early '90s, and stars an array of action veterans from those decades (such as Stallone himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Dolph Lundgren, as well as more recent stars Jason Stratham, Jet Li and Mickey Rourke). This movie already screams ‘sequel’ and it would be an injustice not to include Pierce Brosnan in the next one if he were interested.
Any thoughts???
Take Care!

Connery was playing action roles until he was about 70 so I'm sure Brosnan has a few years left yet to do one more of these types of roles. It's a shame that Thomas Crown sequel never seemed to get off the ground.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

The last action movie Sean did was 2003's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and he was around 71/72 back then. I see TC sequel more of drama movie than an action film.

It's a shame that Thomas Crown sequel never seemed to get off the ground. Ironically, it's another property that has been grounded by MGM's troubles. I'm beginning to think we may never see it at this point, as Brosnan recently started downplaying the idea. During his last appearance on The Tonight Show, he said he always expected the original to be a stand-alone film. Brosnan would be ideal for a spy film based upon the "retired gunslinger" theme. I'm surprised no one has tried to cast him as an aging spy haunted by his past. The closest we've gotten to that is probably The Matador.

What's it about? Does it have a big budget?

What's it about? Does it have a big budget? The budget for St. Vincent is an estimate of $15 million, and here's the plot summary: Hitman Vincent Novena goes deep undercover portraying a priest to get close enough to kill his gangland traitor target. He soon discovers that playing the part of a good man is more dangerous than being a mob killer ever was. No good deed goes unpunished. The more Vincent opens up, the more vulnerable he becomes. Yet he never completely loses his cutting edge. A taut and explosive crime drama fueled by irony and laced with wry humor.

And again....how big would this movie be? Our 5th Bond deserves a DEFINITE blockbuster. Well, he did just star in Mamma Mia!, which was actually bigger than QOS. It would be kind've hard to top that one. St. Vincent sounds promising- especially the pairing of Brosnan and Walter Hill- but I wouldn't expect it to be a huge blockbuster. Brosnan just doesn't seem very interested in that type of thing anymore. He did it for years as 007 and now appears content to explore less commercial projects. (Ironically, since leaving Bond, he actually enjoys better reviews than Craig.)

One that will strike gold, not only excellent reviews but also box office returns as well, especially here in the US. He deserves MUCH MUCH MUCH better than that, especially after his unfair dismissal from Bond. It's good that he's getting more work, but I want see more of him in a mega-blockbuster territory. Look at Sean Connery, he's done quite a plenty of big commercial blockbusters after Bond. Indy 3, The Hunt of the Red October, The Rock......you name them. I thought Pierce should do what Sean did and take it to the next level. Plus, I don't want Bond to be the only known blockbuster role he plays, particularly for the action genre.

Connery's big career resurgence came much later in his career, though. He actually followed a similar path as Brosnan immediately after Bond, opting to play against type in everything from period films to science fiction.
