I'm really not that interested in seeing Brosnan do an action blockbuster- mainly because that genre just ain't what it used to be.
However, Brosnan would be ideally suited to playing an ex-secret agent or aging hitman. (For example, something like George Clooney's new film, The American.)
I also think Brosnan would still make a great Matt Helm- provided that project ever gets out of development hell. Helm was routinely billed as the "anti-Bond" and was a secret agent well past his 'sell-by' date.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)
Favourite Films: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, The Matrix, Mission: Impossible

I do agree the action genre isn't what it used to be anymore and so are comedy and horror films. In fact, all the genres from Hollywood movies aren't as classy as they used to be. However, both Tarantino and Chris Nolan know how to make an excellent blockbuster (especially for an action genre), and one example is Inception. Ever since being replaced by DC, I wanted to see more of Pierce in the action blockbuster realm as a different kind of action hero.

And there are actors (not including guys like Arnie, Sly, and Fat Seagal) around Pierce's age or older still doing action films. Liam Neeson, Denzel Washington, John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson......you name them. Heck, even Tommy Lee Jones is still doing action films, and MIB 3 is on its way.

I wonder if Brosnan really wants to do an action film now. He wasn't taken very seriously as an actor in the eighties and early nineties and was essentially a direct to video star who was best known for nearly becoming James Bond once. Then, when he did become Bond he used his production company to make more low-key dramas. He seems to be more respected as an actor now and having done four Bond films where he was running around doing stunts for six months at a time I think he'd be happy to just lay down some interesting work and do more things like that Polanski film and the Western he did a few years ago.

I wonder if Brosnan really wants to do an action film now. I hope he doesn't rule out of this. Like I said earlier, there are plenty of actors around his age or older still doing action films. There are Pro-Craig minions out there still bashing him. And what about teaming up with Tarantino in regular action blockbuster? Both originally planned to do CR together. Since this never came to pass, they should do a movie together. When it comes to blockbusters, Tarantino is an expert and so is Chris Nolan.

I hope he doesn't rule out of this. Like I said earlier, there are plenty of actors around his age or older still doing action films. Not only that, but Brosnan still looks young enough to pull off action roles. I'm not that crazy about seeing him part of an ensemble cast in a big budget film- which is likely what participation in a Nolan film would mean- but I wouldn't mind seeing him do something on a smaller scale. I actually think he should take a cue from Liam Neeson- who recently started carving out a nice little action niche for himself. (Brosnan in Taken would've certainly been an interesting mix.) But as James points out, he seems more interested in drama and comedy at this point.

I want to see Pierce go more diverse and versatile in the action blockbuster realm. This is what Sean did in his later career. Like I said, he got The Hunt For The Red October, Indy 3, The Rock......you name them. The last action movie Sean did was The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, and he was only 71/72 back then.

Connery got to do that back in the 90s, though. As I said, the genre just ain't what it used to be.
Fifteen years ago, films like The A-Team, Knight and Day, and Predators would've been summer blockbusters. Today they'll be lucky to break even. The marketplace has become dominated by superhero, animated, and 3D films- all genres geared towards kids and families. (Even Inception benefited greatly from its close association to The Dark Knight.)
So while I'd love to see Brosnan- or anyone for that matter- revive the action blockbuster genre, it seems unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Besides what I said earlier, I want to see him show the dark side in a regular action movie, something he never had a chance to do as Bond.
If Pierce is to revive the action blockbuster genre, he's going to need a right director. If not this, I hope he does current big projects that gears towards the general public for I don't want Bond to be the only known blockbuster role (especially for an action genre) he plays. For the general moviegoers, Pierce is just Bond. Look at Patrick Stewart. He didn't let Trek to be the only work he's known for. Thanks to X-Men, the whole public now sees him as more than just the captain of the Enterprise.
