I got the impression as well that they spent much more money than usual promoting CR and hyping Daniel Craig in particular. We'll see later in the year if they repeat this with QOS.

We'll see later in the year if they repeat this with QOS. Judging by the amount of advance publicity, they already are. MSN has already started posting regular updates about the film- a practice I've never seen them do before. Last week, they even ran the exact same "QOS Rumors" article that they had posted a few months ago. (This is clearly a sign that EON's paid for a little promotion- much like they did when Bond suddenly got his own section at Superherohype, back in 2006.) As some of us commented a few weeks ago, it's surprising that EON feels they need to promote QOS so early in the year. Brosnan's films typically just got a teaser poster (and maybe a trailer) sometime during the summer.

Favourite James Bond Films: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible and any upcoming action films starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good because he'll need it to expand his reputation as an actor, especially in the action realm)

Back in 2002, DAD was promoted earlier by showing the first 13-14 Bonds on ABC.

With Die Another Day I simply read a few magazines with features on the films, watched the batch of Bond specials on television just before the film came out, then watched the film. Casino Royale was hyped a lot, and I took more notice of the making of the film. Maybe the higher profile was becuase of the new direction and because the press had some fun with Daniel Craig portraying him as some kind of idiots that fans did not like! Maybe promotional techniques have changed since 2002 - and the internet has advanced. But Daniel Craig and QOs are turning up in unexpected places.

I do think both DAD and CR benefited from the new age of internet promotion. It was less evident with DAD (and started much later), but the film did received more promotion than any Brosnan film since GE.

If Pierce didn't do DAD, the movie would have done poorly.

What if Tim Dalton had not been available for The Living Daylights. Who would have taken over? Would it have made any difference to the film or its success?

Besides Pierce and Tim, the other contenders include Sam Neill, Mel Gibson, Mark Greenstreet, Lambert Wilson, Antony Hamilton, Findlay Light, Andrew Clarke and Sean Bean

Dalton was not mentioned in the media as a possible Bond before his appointment. All the talk was about Brosnan being the favourite. Maybe Cubby had a few other unknowns lined up if he did'nt get Brosnan. Gibson claims he has turned down the role several times. Findlay Light claimed he had been appointed Bond at one time, probably as a self publicity stunt. Sean bean was perhaps too young. There were loads of actors linked, Simon Mccorkindale (Casualty), John James (Dynasty), Tom Sellick, Charles Dance and Lewis Collins. The search lasted so long there was even talk of luring Sir Roger back. If that had happened, even the most loyal Bond loyal Bond fan would have been rolling around the aisles laughing.

I'm certain Lewis Collins would have been a popular Bond; he is one of those people who was made for the part, especially for the vacancy in 1987. But, as the story goes, Cubby Broccoli did not like him, and he would have chosen an lesser known actor for The Living Daylights.

Cubby went with Tim because he was on his mind for more than a decade.

It would have been nice if Pierce debuts in The Living Daylights. He would done 6 movies already. Other than that, he's more appropriate for 1990s, and it's a pity that he didn't get a chance to do CR-type Bond movie like he wanted. He deserve a lot better than he had during tenure, but EON wasted his time with weak scripts.

There are different views about whether Pierce should have become Bond in 1986. He was the red hot favourite and would have become Bond if the producers of Remington Steel had'nt made him do another seris. Cubby Brocoli did'nt want to appoint a Bond who was still making a T.V seris. Especially one where he would constantly be seen in suits and Tuxedo's. He thought it would cheapen the Bond franchise. That is a bit unfair as Brosnan only had a few more episodes of R.S. to make. Cubby could have perhaps waited another year. After three Bonds in two years, - NSNA, O & AVTAK no one would have complained about a three year gap. As a youthful 33, Brosnan could have played a young Bond on his first mission (sound familar). I'm sure Brosnan would have also enjoyed playing a darker Bond in LTK. He would have then enjoyed the six year gap & got some more acting experience. But he would'nt have quit the part, like Dalton did. Brosnan loved being Bond and would have continued and made another 3 or 4. Cubby was dead chuffed at getting a serious actor like Dalton, but after making only two films, one which did poor box office, perhaps he wishes he had picked Pierce.
